Not sure the logic in giving away prime real estate.

Stop posting misinformation, Macy actually also received 270 million dollars in 2015 when another real estate company bought the top five floors of the building and the parking lot.
Basically the company received all together 293 million dollars for the site when you add both 2015 and 2024 sales together.
@1vzp+1vU6s7oa To be fair the stock price 12 months ago was artificially inflated by buyout rumors with a tagged price target. Compare it to 13 months ago if you want a better comparison (that wasn’t inflated by activist shareholders). It was $10.97 on 11/10/2023.
I agree, even the F50 doors still look boring. Cardboard stars for holiday? What is this, Target? And OMG don't even get me started on all that ugly Disney collab that no one is buying (seriously, who wants a denim military jacket embroidered with Mickey on the back?)
I was walking through my local mall and checked out Pac Sun, A&F, Aeropostal, Zara, H&M. And then I went into Macy's. The clothes in there for Millennial and Gen Z just look so uncool and nothing young people would want to wear. This is the generation Macy's needs to capture to stay in business and they are failing (while also pi----g off the Boomers because there's nothing for them anymore, either).
What a shame wow Brooklyn only selling for that amount is crazy. What a bargain for the buyer. This is a NYC property and should have definitely gotten a higher amount. Macys management has been on a downward spiral, this is a lot for Tony to overcome. They should study how other retailers operate including the efficiency of Dillards.
I’ve been in line at Zara to try on clothes
Since Thanksgiving !
I'd love to buy real estate at 20 cents on a dollar. Was senior management asleep at the wheel? Especially when the person who bought it immediately flips it for a profit.
I think you’ve hit upon it: their stores are just boring.
I know department stores aren’t the retail powerhouses they were 20-30 years ago, but stores in other countries are able to remain viable. Mexico has El Palacio de Hierro and Liverpool, Spain has El Corte Ingles, Japan has Mitsukoshi, Takashimaya, Hankyu, and Isetan, among others, and England has a handful as well.
Perhaps top management at Macy’s should get on a plane and see why things are working well for other retailers.
Today he will announce a new initiative “A great better day”. Throw anything up against the wall and see what’s stick. We need a CEO from outside the firm not a retread. Is Macy’s supposed to be Bloomingdale’s light and need more bodies or TJMaxx light and need none. Pick a lane TS.
Running Macy's Inc seems like it may be more than Tony was ready for. When he took over on 2/20/24 our stock price at closing was $19.26, our stock closed today at $16.72 a share, a 19% drop. This is while the S&P500 is up double digits.
In a little less than 10 months, the company has announced it's closing 150 stores and decided to call it a "Bold New Strategy" when every failed retailer had a similar, but maybe less presumptuous spin on similar downsizing approaches. We have moved from one activist investor distraction (Arkhouse) to the embarrassment of a delayed earnings release, to yet another activist investor fiasco (Barington). Now we learn that the company is selling assets for pennies on the dollar. What a year, can't wait for the next survey, it will be interesting to see if we leave the question about trusting senior leadership or asking people how they feel about the future in the survey.
The problem is there is nothing worth buying at Macy's. I used to live near that store, and the assortment su-ks; not worth my money even though I had worked at corporate. Also, they have horrible hiring practices; I had the worst senior designer ever; just like the SVP, they regurgitate old designs with no originality. Some people in corporate live in Lala land.
I would rather spend my money at UNIQLO, Zara, Everlane, Old Navy, H&M, and GAP. The quality at Macy's is just cheap, cheap, cheap.
