Yes. There is a difference between incompetence and malice. There are leaders who are genuinely awful people and live to make an example of people in front of others or throw around threats of firing people in front of the whole team. I’d prefer kind and competent but can survive kind and incompetent. Malicious bosses will take years off your life and aren’t worth it even if they are excellent technically.
