Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

Worried about h1b changes

In the past Google has filtered out citizens to hire candidates that need to be sponsored. Will we have to start hiring american candidates again?

Companies are not sponsoring h1b anymore, everything is being outsourced to Philippines/ India/Mexico/Romania. Trump can't do anything about it. It's capitalism.

I came as H1B during a time we were really needed. Good only days in 2000. Windows 2000 Server was rocking and Microsoft sent out recruiters worldwide

Truth being toldt there is no reason to bring thousands of H1B anymore. I have been trying to transfer within Google and I rarely see an opening for my role

Good! I hope Trump restricts h1b and heavily punishes outsourcing so these American companies are forced to hire Americans again.

With Trump in power, of course H1b will be clamped down!

And of course, Goog is not gonna pay American-sized salaries for Indian candidates.

They can just move the projects to India.

SP still wants to get his bonus with better per share profit like IBM.

The H1B program is a distraction.

It's the L1 program that's used. It has no quotas or pay requirements (pay remains in local amounts)

I assume they'll bring in more L1s to backfill US positions.

Typically they provide places for L1 to live.

Are you reading your mail box? Sundar explained it:

US and Europe -- small layoffs and natural attrition

India, Poland, and Mexico -- compensatory hiring of cheap graduates

What's not clear?
