There have been many posts lately but nothing recent regarding actual layoffs or direct announcements (I have read the news articles). Has anyone been let go recently and is willing to share? One of my friends was let go in March, he got a zoom invite 3 days before. It was a group invite and all in the call got the boot. I have another friend who went through a group end-of-year meeting and the closing line was "you are being let go and you got an hour to pick up your desk". So I am surprised how so many of us are still here yet I just got an invite for an "unknown topic" group call. I wonder if they still have the same "modus operandi" and my group is going to be let go or if they have something more sinister in mind.

I would Not be surprised if $hittybank does Layoffs a few days Before Christmas/Hanukkah (which happen to be on the same day this year).
$hittybank did this in 2023.
$hittybank's Layoff pattern:
February
April
Oct / Nov / Dec
Layoffs will still take place in smaller groups at a time over the span of 2025.
10 here, 5 over there and another 10 over there for this week.
20 here, 5, over here for next week.
5 here, 10 over there and another 10 over there, the week after.
Just small enough each time to not to draw too much attention but it will still happen.
In tech, yes for redundant systems, but also in other areas not JUST tech only.
I just heard from my manager that in 2025 , layoffs will be more focused on technology teams and that it will happen every month in very small batches on a continuous basis.
Roles moving abroad. Layoffs at the end of the first quarter??? That can’t be possible, after all we were told Bora bora was done and over with. Surely there’s no way they could be wrong or even lying. That’d be just crazy talk.
OP update: 50+ people in the call. In nutshell we were told our roles are moving abroad. Layoffs will start in batches 1st quarter ending march 2025. No further info was provided.
I guess group meeting vs 1:1 meeting depends on the group MD. My job was impacted in Mar 2024, I had 1:1 meeting to break the news I was kind of expecting this.
I was a non-working employee for 90 days and I got 12 weeks of severance.
Hi OP here. My friends who were let go earlier this year all got their severance. No idea how will it go for my team.
Question for OP: do you know if the people (that you know) who were let go will be getting severance? Thanks.
Let go on a 1:1 that was LOOOOOLs
Are you serious? to be let go is preferable, there are worse alternatives. Reducing pay, making our lives a living he-l, etc....
What could they have in mind that's more "sinister" than letting you go?
