Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

Fundamentals of change

The product hub side of Comcast and Sky is riddled with management who don’t seem to understand how to translate business fundamentals into technical strategy.

Even after a massive restructure which took a year to complete, there’s still a lot of unnecessary engineering to build empires, a lot of SILO thinking, a lot of plain nepotism protecting people who should have gone. The only thing that’s really easy is losing faith and hope. Real change is essentially extinct.

The leadership does nothing to address these things. There’s a lot of knee je-k “strategy” and constantly changing priorities. The point of transformational change has entirely been missed by most of the key leaders. Nothing short of a change of leadership now will deliver real change in the organisation that’s sorely needed.

The leadership team is subpar at best.

You’re absolutely right, and it’s not the only project where this has happened. It seems to be a feature of the corporate culture and I can’t see any of the leadership team working to change this.

The project formerly known as Orion in Comcast Business got a much needed change at the top. I've since left that group and I don't want to ask questions so I only know from LinkedIn. Basically everyone director and above needed to go on some teams so I'm sure most are still there. Lots of what you're talking about was going on in the form of pseudo empires, SILO thinking, and nepotism. It was bad, millions of dollars and hard work wasted to protect a small group of people. Comcast will be digging out from what a few knowingly and selfishly did for years.
