Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Completely demoralized

I can barely drag myself to work. Everything that awaits me are piles of toxicity and a passive aggressive incompetent manager. It’s really hard to convince yourself that it’s just a job and all you should do is collect your paycheck when you are bombarded with negativity on a daily basis in a company you most probably have no future with. I sometimes wonder if leadership is too stupid and greedy to realize that they would have much better results with people who are actually motivated.

I do the same thing but I try to psych my self out. It su-ks never getting praise while the others who do less get raises and recognition. It is like prison with a release date just do the time. My father told me to psych my self out meaning just dive in and make the best of it. He was right I feel better when I do this. He told me don't ever show weakness or let them know how you feel. If they smell blood they will attack more like sharks. Be indifferent to the chaos. I only get pleasure from the accomplishments I do. I like when I can solve a problem or design a fix. It gives me personal satisfaction. That is all I get from exxon. No raises RSU or praise. My father said do you get good money I said yes he then said be happy because you get no respect but get money. Money is the key nothing else. Just live in a bubble close your office door and avoid the toxicity. Even he ll can be tolerable. I am getting used to the place I am at now even though it is evil. The time goes by fast as well months go by like days here. I have six weeks vacation and intend to use it all every year. You will see as you get older time seems to pass more quickly. I told an old friend of mine if I blink my eye you are gone retired he rebuffed no I will be here for many years to come. I blinked and one year later they were piped and retired. So many of the old are gone and one thing is common change. Change not for the better but worse. So good luck stick it out or leave. I am on a high because I am inspired by the NRE post fellow. I will be NRE starting next year.

ExxonMobil is becoming more like almost every other large, publicly traded company where the focus is on making the next quarter numbers look good. People are just a resource that can be replaced. The fallacy that people who haven't been anywhere else have is that everywhere else is better.
There are better places, and your personal situation might be terrible compared to others. But going to another company isn't likely to guarantee going from he-l to heaven.

“Everything that awaits me are piles of toxicity and a passive aggressive incompetent manager…”

This is every U.S. company with more than 1,000 employees. I just go to whichever place that pays me the most money and tune out the BS. Seems to work.

Yup many of us feel the same way. I laugh when I see the young ones who are paid a third of what I am try so hard and believe the BS. The supervisors don't like that we the low ranked oldies to tell them the truth. They want to keep the wool over their eyes as long as possible. What happens to us will happen to them it is just a matter of time. It is inventible and guaranteed. I am happy the end is near for me but for the young they have a lot more to suffer. I could only stand 15 years at this s h it hole. How many can you stand ask yourself. The truth needs to be known. I first heard of the sh-t hole that is Baytown exxon 30 years ago. I was in college and one of the math professors worked at exxon Baytown either refining or chemical. He was a chem E and worked on the expansion in the 80's. He did good work but was an outcast. Everything he did was wrong and was conspired against by the other engineers. His work was outstanding and completed on time. He was pushed out and piped. This left a bad taste in his mouth for the rest of his life. He advised us against working for this horrible company that is exxon. He called it a Monster that would destroy your soul and su-k the life out of you. I did not take the advice or warning seriously at the time as I was young and d-mb and full of c u me upence. Spread the truth so maybe somebody is saved from a hellish stint at exxon. The young ones don't listen they are enamored by exxon. They think they will all be hipos and have a great career. Boy are they wrong.

I’m with you. They’ve cut our fringe benefits, charge us premium prices for cr-ppy lunch, and no career growth.
