Prepare for more layoffs folks. Stock is already down on this news.

Difference is that Dubai got it done. Whatever they work on they get done. Wouldn't be surprised if Apple spent more on developing the modem than Dubai spent on Palm Jumeira.
limitless cash does not necessarily mean good engineering. Case in point: Dubai. There are absolutely laughable wasteful projects in that city. For example, to create their "palm tree" project, they reclaimed land from the sea; they could have easily dug canals inland and would have created the same project but the costs would have come down to a great extent, flora/fauna wouldn't have been mauled AND the islands wouldn't be sinking as they are right now. Apple modem = Dubai. They shine. Good to stop at and take selfies. But good engineering? We'll see!
@2eet The point is that Apple, with seemingly unlimited resources, is unable to create a modem while much smaller companies did so years ago.
One reason for this is that Apple is known for creating walled gardens. Creating a modem is like operating in a jungle. It goes against Apple's mindset.
keep dreaming Apple. If you are so c0cky, why would you release it in entry level phone? Go ahead and put it in your next flagship. Like it or not, QC modem has grown organically over decades so su-k it up! (Before you hate me for this, remember the 2018 Intel modem fiasco. They had released their iPhn with Intel modem in India/Asian markets.)
mmwave and carrier aggregation means little till you go into a city and all your samsung friends can quickly download maps with 5G while your map app is stuck trying to load the maps in 4G mode
It doesn’t matter if apple’s modem isn’t ready until 2040. Not gonna stop the layoffs
The longer Q thinks it's too special to fail, the sooner its demise will come.
Is that all any of you have? The money argument? Yes Apple has limitless resources, and they will eventually have their own modem, no question. But you do realize that it takes years of research to develop a comprehensive high performance 5G modem chip to match the performance of Q modems which is Q’s bread and butter. Not to mention, Apple is a victim of their own standards when rolling out products. The optics of a perfect rollout probably means more to them than the product itself. They’ll extend at least one more time watch. Then you can go back and like this comment when it happens 🤣
So much fear-based rationalization. "Our jobs are safe because what we do is so special, and x-x is such a failure." Yet X-X has 20x the value of Q. It's like a chihuahua yapping at a gorilla.
@2nbc, and Qualcomm came out with a 5G modem in 2016 and Intel in 2017… what’s your point?
Mediatek, a company with worth 1/20th of Apple, came out with a 5G modem in 2018.
Man, so many of you kissing apple’s a$$ it’s really sad. You really think apple can just snap their fingers and a modem will magically appear? Forget about the technical complexities, time constraints, apple’s lack of true deep-rooted experience in modem technology, global network compatibility, patent issues. These things take A LOT of time! And anything less than a perfect rollout of an in-house modem would be catastrophic for Apple. So don’t be surprised if they end up extending again. Things aren’t always what they seem…
They can’t possibly build a modem. This is not real. This is not real...
We've been waiting for the last 6 years for a modem from Apple. During this time Samsung and Mediatek made their own 5G modems. And we're still giving Apple all the benefit of the doubt.
I guarantee you these are fake news article "leaked" by Apple to lower Qualcomm stock. What else can you say when they say this every year, yet renew their contract with Qualcomm.
The fear is real. It’s entertaining to watch this unfold. Let’s continue to dis Apple modem without even seeing it first. Let’s all close eyes and repeat “They can’t possibly build a modem. This is not real. This is not real. Everything is going to be okay” 👌🏼
The average user doesn't even know what "4 carrier aggregation" or "mmWave" even means, and they are already satisfied with their performance in that regard.
They mainly care about camera performance and cost. No - Qualcomm is NOT safe.
"seriously inferior product"? I'm planning in getting my first new phone in years when the SE4 comes out. The spec one-upmanship seems like it mainly serves a niche clientele to me.
the first rollout if it happens will showcase a seriously inferior product with a max 4 carrier aggregation and no mmwave support. This after 7 years. We are good. Once they need us back, QCOM will need to tighten the sc--w on them and sell the bb processor for no less than $100 a piece with minimal support. Any serious suppirt should go on the top of that. That would be the case with a serious CEO instead of the door mat we have now
Dissing Apple sounds a little desperate.
Only Qualcomm knows how to build a modem. It’s too complicated for others
Then why hasn't Apple been able to? They've been trying since at least before 2018. Truth is that a modem is code running on a DSP, and Apple's specialty is hardware and devices, not software. They couldn't make a decent OS and had to steal BSD for OSX and iOS.
Apple modem? Nah. Only Qualcomm knows how to build a modem. It’s too complicated for others. They’re too stupid. Qualcomm has the most smartest engineers and managers. Go Qualcomm!!!
Apple is not going to use their modem if they weren't 100% sure of the performance, the consequences would be catastrophic for the brand! Expect a lot of layoffs at Q on the modem side, and other BUs, the all fat cash cow will soon become skinny and dry!
The arrival of the Apple modem reminds me about the claim Iran is about to have nuclear bo--s for the past 30 years. Maybe a modem is more complex than a CPU, GPU, and other ICs.
