Thread regarding Solventum layoffs

Solventum Layoffs (Dec 2024)

I know that most people here already know what's cooking but here it is for the uninformed folks... there are layoffs happening at Solventum right now & the affected employees received notifications this morning. The atmosphere is tense as several divisions are affectel... People are edgy about their job security. A video was sent out announcing the layoffs - the details have left employees uncertain about who will be impacted, so people are freaking out. It’s so sad to see peers facing such difficult news, especially during this time of year which should be time of joy and celebration...

I’ve heard from several folks who have shared their experiences after receiving their notices - one reflected on their long tenure at the company and expressed disappointment over projects she was passionate about that will now remain unfinished.,,, Others are frustrated & concerned for their future, this is a huge change for eveyone.,.

I guess we know depend on each other and we can use each other for support. I hope all of this is over, I hope you stay unaffected and things work out. Good luck all.

Former HIS employee and now that I’ve had a few years to look at the company from the outside. Their issue remains following an outdated playbook with weak leadership. Until changes are made to the executive level they will continue to struggle to grow the top line. Their tech is outdated and so is their strategy.

I worked at 3M HIS and saw the rapid growth through the years. Unfortunately, they put a clinical person in charge of that division and she has no clue how to run a business. So many companies have surpassed there capabilities. The leadership in that group is purely friends and family.

We saw this is coming the moment Solventum was chosen as the company name...
Why not just call it Insolvency..

It’s so disappointing to see how badly the spin has been handled. Once the best business at 3M is now struggling to meet plan (negative to flat… seriously?) and what was promised with experienced leaders is a fiasco. The most disappointing is the dental business, with a “vaurien” on top sitting in Paris and he has destroyed what what was the jewel business at 3M. He should be the first to if restructuring is seriously to get real prioritization…

As long as everyone's notice period plus the severance is over 60 days pay, the WARN doesn't have to be filed until afterwards.

i.e. - You are told on Dec. 1st. - Your last day is December 31st - Your severance runs until at least January 31st so it is over > 60 days, hence no WARN.

They stopped solving for you.

Layoffs already are not a good look.

‘Solventum Way’
‘People First’
Sure People first, to get cut and that’s the Solventum way!

Likely Bryan couldn’t handle Trian and their pressure.

I didn't see any WARN notice issued. It's 50 over by site. Sites can include like work, closeness geographically, business units etc. So likely less than 50 in what they're calling a site. I can't see a fortune 1000 company forgetting to send a WARN. Most companies that size send the warn no matter what. I've seen them done even for a single employee.
"Penalties for violating the WARN Act include back pay and benefits for affected employees for the period of the violation, up to 60 days, as well as a potential civil penalty of up to $500 per day for each affected employee if proper notice was not given to the local government unit; this can be enforced through a class action lawsuit by employees or their representatives. "

What comes out from the CEO's mouth doesn't match what they are doing to the company. Prayers to those who are left behind to pick up the slack. The remaining functions got lumped with responsibilities that make no sense.

The name above the door may change, but the same sh-t happening.... My advice. Take your future in your own hands. get out and find a company that appreciates your talent. I did. and my mental health is so much better for it.

For me, the only thing that fits with „people first“ is this Solventum layoff page. Finally an opportunity to talk, freely, without fear. Spread the word to our colleagues to express their free speech. Join and keep the conversation going, also beyond the layoffs. If more Solventum employees join and share their views and information, maybe we will be heard and helped in the end? Don‘t leave the stage and storytelling to Bryan. The shareholders have a right to an alternative view.

3M/Solventum HIS works people to the ground under extremely stressful conditions. If you or a loved one was let go, it su-ks now, but in the long run I promise things will be better. There are several other companies out there that pay more, treat their employees better, and you won’t be strapped to your desk doing the work of multiple people.

Most people were so stressed out from this sweatshop, that they didn’t have time to find other jobs, nor the motivation because they were so beat down. I have been out of there for almost 2 years due to similar circumstances, and I promise you I am better off for it. The company makes money by squeezing its employees, rather than investing in new development and strong technology. Don’t give up your life for this circus. Be grateful that it happened and look ahead, you will be better in the long run.

Search LinkedIn for 3M HIS employees who have now worked at other companies. With the move to the new company, it should be very easy to find those people just searching Solventum. You would be surprised at how many people are willing to help because they are in better environments and wouldn’t want to go back to that chaos ever again.

Lordy, Bryan boy is all for growth and progress and is so different than Mikey boy, oh I am so lucky to leave and work for this visionary leader ......
