collecting tax payer cash for free and still laying off people. Politicians and corporations.
Schumer has been giving money away to his pals for a very
loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.
Must be newly elected? Hopefully he will do a good job.
Chuck Schumer is one of those Senators who never worked in the private sector and more comfortable having his photo taken than actually getting stuff done for NYers.
'Who is Chuck Shumer? VP?'
corrupt privileged senator who has been in office forever (i.e., has not held a real job)
From my point of view the Chips Bill is not accomplishing what it should. It was targeted to make the US independent from rest of the world and specifically China and Taiwan if China ever takes them over. Taiwan not being their own country and being part of NATO and China feeling they still own them makes things very unstable. So, the Chips Bill at a high level was supposed to improve R&D in the US for advanced techs, bring manufacturing of advanced nodes back to the US. The short answer is much of the Chips Bill money will not accomplish the goals at hand. Let's start with R&D which is more of a positive story but still pieces are missing. There has been money given for next gen EUV to NY Creates Albany site, which is good. However, the NSTC is dragging their feet for selecting an advanced R&D/Prototyping center overall, essentially there really is only one choice which is Albany (NY Creates/IBM/Micron) so let's give that money out for advanced logic and memory research right away. Now besides advanced tech nodes for things like GaN, SiC, etc etc the R&D center in US really isn't funded/defined and that needs to be addressed.
Then next is the manufacturing side, money has been given to GF, Intel, Samsung and TSMC. Now this is where things fell far short of goals. First giving Samsung and TSMC money to mfg in the US does not fix the dependencies the US has. The GF money should have been clearly targeted and forced to be used in Vermont and NY fabs only, they will use this money in other countries, we see no investment in NY or VT fabs currently so where is the money used (Bulgaria? India? Singapore? Dresden?) Next is Intel, they are the only true advanced US foundry in the US they should have gotten more money from US Chips Bill.
OK if you want my take on how the money should have been given out and there needs to be continued dollars each year to supplement this R&D and US mfg work:
The Chips Bill strategy/goals should have been very simple, however, as usual the US govt can't seem to get anything right and they have wasted a lot of taxpayer dollars here unfortunately!!
