Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Why did we acquire a solar company?

Given the expected new strategy and all the renewables pivots, why did we just close on the Lightsource solar company acquisition? Are we just going to eliminate the business and/or drive it into the ground? Assuming we’ll integrate the capabilities and get rid of the employees….But do we even need these capabilities now? I thought we were backpedaling lower carbon.

BP came into Lightsource bp, and immediately ruined the culture and growth of the company. BP company culture is notorious for low morale and running great businesses into the ground, and taking from their employees to pad profits. It's all about making a few board members happy. If BP could change up their strategy and invest in the employees, profits and efficiency will come. BP makes plenty in profits, but treating your employees well equals growth and attracts top talent.

The strategy going forward is to appear that we are an integrated energy company. We’ll do this by minimally investing in green energy, but the real business will be traditional fossil fuels. We have to maintain this appearance to avoid legal repercussions related to “green washing”.

@2fmv+1vOXQtKt I got my wife to read this, and when she read the bit about the Birkin bag, her eyes just rolled, and said that just sums GC up. Style over substance. Please say this silly frivolous woman will not be allowed to stay with the company until the day she retires!! There is so much wrong with the LT.

Oh G was dismal at the WL office she introduced herself by telling everyone all the places she had been visiting sites in a time of cost constraints. Then when asked about what our strategy was in South America she said we didn't have one. Someone asked if it was really a communication problem since no one was really clear on what the strategy was and she said it was 'dynamic'. She was pitiful - could not answer one question clearly and OA tried to cover for her! All of course while carrying her Birkin bag - bp green of course. Why was she even her!?!

@1bdb+1vOXQtKt you are right about no strategy. You only have to look at who on the LT is responsible for strategy and all becomes clear. How on earth this compant persists with her is beyond belief. If I run out of laxatives, I watch her presentations on YouTube and that does the trick!!! I shudder to think what her total remuneration package is. She is one of BL's biggest mistakes. I think he hired her as an act of spite against the company. If ever anyone failed upward, it's her.

We absolutely don’t believe it. This company has no strategy

This post really shows that the messaging around strategy is not landing with employees. Murray keeps saying ‘the destination is unchanged’ - ie we are still aiming to transition and get to net zero, but clearly nobody believes it.
