That time of the year again. I hope I just get laid off this time.

Yeah, I left HP due to the furloughs and low pay. I was severely underpaid as a CW but I loved what I was working on and I lived close to Spring, TX. A recruiter finally contacted me about a remote position which gave me a huge raise with no furloughs so I left HP for good. In fact, all of the best CW developers left before I did so even more work was dumped onto me.
Honestly, the furloughs, the low pay, and the constant CW turnover told me that HP didn’t value the products that we were creating and I expected that our team would eventually get shut down to save money.
I remember when I was still with HP last year as an FTE, they had been furloughing CWs for durations of two weeks to prevent them from filing for unemployment. How many furloughs this now since the beginning of covid? Must be on like 8 or something.
HP has horrible cash management: they layoff, they furlough, they do massive reorgs, they reduce their portfolio to almost nothing, they chop funding for patent submissions to allow maybe five inventions a year, they leave supply chain and engineering with no money, they have constant hiring freezes... yet they seem to have money for parties, top tier sponsorships, provide stock buybacks and dividends?
HP is in massive debt and nothing they do is helping them. This company has worse credit than a kindergartener with a mortgage.
Yes it is. I was told to expect a furlough from Dec 16 to Jan 3 and return on Jan 6 2025. There are a few people who will work and only be off during the end of year shut down. It all depends on your HP unit manager and their budgets.
Is it happening again??!?
