On my team the majority of those fired were minorities and women because they were the majority to begin with. So hard to pt fingers there. As far as old white men ( or old of any color) being fired, I see far too many older employees just going through motions thinking they already earned their right to stay. It’s not everyone but enough to notice. Business isn’t in good enough shape to let you coast to retirement like your old bosses did. If your answer to every challenge is that’s not how we used to do it (and I’m taking a 2 week vacation and not answering work emails) then you’re not helping.

To the last post I think it’s largely up to department head preference. Despite the claim in the last post that there is a desire to increase minority numbers, our dept. head eliminated the majority of people of color so the minority thing doesn’t always ring true.

OMG people throwing each other for being remote or desk job. Elementary school mentality. Do you actually think home or on site matters to these people . Wow it's so way down on the list it doesn't even factor in. Layoffs are 90% getting rid of existing liabilities that include creeps/perverts and people that complain about them. Union layoffs are decided by the union not management - these are the backroom deals. 10% of layoffs are because of high pay for little results. Other layoffs due to company attempt to increase minority numbers by laying off mostly white & male & over 40. Nobody at the top knows anything about you unless you're legally entangled . Getting rid of potential lawsuits saves the most money

Seems to me that some people are pretty bitter about being in the office 40 hours a week. However, some jobs can be done without having to be onsite, this is actually saving a lot of jobs. The cost saving is enormous. This is why most of the real estate is mundane. What's the point of having people come in if you can be just as productive using your own pen, paper, copy machine, electricity, wifi, etc?

This whole "Working from home = less productivity" is a sign of who needs to be phased out. This dated way of thinking is exactly why this company has not succeeded. People are still trying to hold onto the way things worked 10 years ago, even four years ago.

We are off loading real estate, these comments about "what if we HAVE TO COME IN" --- Paramount is getting rid of real estate, that means your agile cube. Think about it...

To the person that said you still see people around the office "loafing" -- I guess your colleague actually made into the office right beside you to notice. How about your focus on your own work?

TIMES HAVE CHANGED and this is only the beginning.

Fully remote employees are low hanging fruit. This has always been the case with this company.

Is anyone in the know about how fully remote team members that now live out of town will be handled if we all have to work onsite

If u have a desk job there is plenty of software they can and might use to figure out who is loafing. Not a perfect indicator but gets enough people on the radar to do further digging on. The thing is someone might then think to use it on the execs too, which might be why they could be thinking twice about that tool. I do still see people around the office who don’t seem busy or stressed, in office 10-5, not available for zoom after 4 on non office days. How did they fire some hard workers and keep these ones?

Remote workers take advantage especially working from exotic locations. That should be investigated.

How would anybody know which full time work from home are dead weight ? Much easier to spot dead weight at the office. You don't understand how unions work. Unions need 3 people to do the job of 1 in order to support union dues. Lazy good for nothing's will never get laid off at this company . The go-getters doing the job of 3 people are the threat to the unions. The dead weight are here because they play the game, they are older lazy people with retirements that are so greedy that they have no brotherhood when it comes to younger workers with no job security & no pension

Just get rid of the dead weight full time remote workers. Problem solved. The market is competitive right now. Those positions could be easily filled.

i think if im reading the NY Warn Reports correctly- the 300 plus layoffs that have a December separation date show that employees were notified in September im hoping so and those arent new ones

I can't imagine a back to office -doesnt even seem like we have office space for that - unless its a way to get people to quit

I guess the WARN Report filed in NYS stating 300+ layoffs 12/23-12/31 went unnoticed.

It's probably prudent for Ellison to sell off MTV at this point, as this brand has been the financial albatross on the overall company portfolio. Subscribership has been declining rapidly over the last year or so, and shows no sign of rebounding.

I heard that the new regime will require us to be on site 5 days a week with no more telecommuting. I guess that will be a problem for those who telecommute full time….oh well.

Has anyone heard anything about that last ten percent of layoffs…. answer: They are too busy trying to get their little millions or guaranteeing a position on skydance as the big lady of the “inclusion”, lgtb, latinos, blacks, bla bla, etc. who already got it

I agree with the post about this creating the largest wave of layoffs to date
Consolidating all TV - finance ops production HR marketing etc into one company .. integrating Pluto into + will be thousands in layoffs

Article:

Paramount Global under Skydance Media is exploring combining all of Paramount’s TV networks, including CBS and MTV, into one unit and consolidating teams across departments including programming and marketing, according to Bloomberg.
As for leadership changes, Bloomberg reports that Paramount co-CEO George Cheeks is expected to stay following the merger, but co-CEO Brian Robbins is expected to depart the company, though a final decision hasn’t been made. The outlet added that the future of co-CEO Chris McCarthy, the third member of the “office of the CEO” remains “less certain.”

The Skydance chief may also explore strategic partnerships that could involve selling off the cable network, but Ellison is not open to selling off CBS, Bloomberg reports. He is also reportedly looking more closely at integrating free, ad-supported streamer Pluto TV into Paramount+.

This is NOT Old News. Consolidating all companies under one roof ( which would possibly create the biggest storm of layoffs ever) has never been in any rumor about skydance. Most rumor has been the opposite - selling off & shuttering companies -

The post means nothing. It's gibberish without explanation of who what where when why. Thelayoff doesn't allow links to be followed by clicking & the text on whatever is listed here is unintelligible & even trying to replicate the link address proves futile every time

Thanks for another useless link. Sp-t it out already.. you're in the communications biz? What we have here is failure to communicate... If this is about Ellison consolidating Broadcast units - then just say it
