I recently learned from my ex-boyfriend, who works at a prominent law firm in New York City, that his firm is involved in a significant lawsuit against Canon concerning allegations of unfair and potentially illegal labor practices. The case reportedly focuses on disparities between how Japanese expatriates and American employees are treated, with claims that the expatriates, often unqualified for their roles, are regularly promoted, while American employees are overlooked and disproportionately laid off. Canon appears to have avoided similar lawsuits in the past, though it’s unclear whether this was due to settlements or other strategies. However, this case seems to present strong evidence against them. Additionally, there are rumors suggesting that Canon may have misrepresented its in-office employee numbers to improperly qualify for certain tax benefits, a practice that has allegedly been uncovered. I don’t have all the details yet, but if I hear more, I’ll be sure to share.

Hope Canon gets a brand new a-hole, legally.
I don't know if any of this is true however I do know as a long-time employee that middle and upper management mainly promote their friends and kiss a-s employees. I've literally seen people get promoted who sit at their desk talking on personal calls all day, texting all day or shopping on the internet and the actual workers have to report to people we do not respect. But I need a job so I just do my work and pray for better days. But I'm always out there looking in case a good job comes up so I can leave. ) : Maybe the grass isn't greener and maybe it happens at all companies however this is the worst company I've ever worked for sadly.
I don't think it's just expats from Japan, there are a number of expats from Europe from the OCE HQs. Spouses have also been found the same American roles and found a position as US employees were let go. This is all part of the BOCA office, so the practice is prevalent throughout Canon USA and Canan Solutions America.
Although I myself find it comical that CYBER WOLF has the time to troll these boards and watch his fellow employees do nothing. Just more proof that Canon is a really of course ship that is not making any turns to right itself.
You just have to look at the org chart of the service organization and this will stand out, so please fact check all day, please.
FACT: There are many VP level positions which are only open to the Japanese, with a 30 year history of record. Exclusive to expats without any available open interviews to American employees. Messed up.
Cyber wolfs response is absurd, from the 20+ years I’ve seen favorable promotions for Japanese vs Americans. Boot li---r.
Once again, this is a comical post. The alleged allegations put forth in this post are laughable. In every promotion cycle, far more Americans are being promoted than Japanese workers. This has nothing to do with Japanese vs. American workers; it has more to do with the people who stand in hallways for hours speaking with colleagues when they should be working and think they should be promoted because sitting in a hallway and speaking for hours is a good job. Try working, and maybe a promotion could come your way.
The other day, I witnessed the same two people (Every Monday and Wednesday) sitting for hours in the hallway of Melville, eating and having a picnic. This post is a joke. Good luck with the case, as Canon's legal team will tear these false allegations into worthless sheets of paper.
I am an employee but not part of HR or legal teams—I am just educated enough to respond to non-factual posts. If you don't like Canon or the people you work with, we have very large EXIT signs posted throughout the building. Walk to one of the exit signs, and have a nice day!
Sadly, this may only apply to us here in the pumpkin patch of LI since very few expats work outside of Melville and it might prove difficult to meet the hurdles of a larger action suit.
There are seriously “Japanese only” positions. Serve them some justice
Thank you for posting this. Long time Melville employee here, it is so true. Please keep us updated. Others may be interested in joining in, based off our unfair treatment experiences.
Good. Please keep us updated!
