Renee James made a mess of things and was not competent to be CEO when she was passed over, but of course the Board instead chose BK so there is that to consider.

She was hired at a time when Intel was making a lot of noise about increasing diversity in semiconductors (as if that was the Intel core mission), although that predated DEI as part of the socialist woke insanity. Yet it was not that sane either, as proved over time.

@1yvp Renee James started at Intel in 1988. She was not a DEI hire. Stop throwing around that word just because a person is not a white male. Meanwhile there is no derogatory term for the last 4 CEOs who ruined this company.

To the id--ts on here mentioning Rene James - she cost Intel ~$7 billion in the acquisition of McAfee (that was her idea).... which was sold off at a loss later. She was just another DEI hire, who was canned when it became too expensive to keep up with her bad decisions.
If she was any good she would have pushed for acquiring ATI graphics at a bargain price of $5.0 billion. (AMD bought ATI instead - and look at where they are now compared to Intel).

So he'll gut the company of all the pen pushers, low skill engineers and focus the company on fab services. Might actually work.

Seems like a good choice and according to reuters is on the short list of candidates for the ceo position:

"Tan is an industry veteran and served on Intel's board of directors for roughly two years as part of a plan to restore the company's place as a leading chipmaker. He joined to board in September 2022 and received expanded responsibilities a year later to oversee manufacturing operations.
But Tan departed in August after clashing with Gelsinger on several aspects of Intel's turnaround plan, including the size of the company's workforce, its contract manufacturing strategy, and its work culture, Reuters has reported.
Tan has previously served as CEO of Cadence Design Systems (CDNS.O)
, opens new tab, where he spent more than a decade and helped turn around the then-ailing design software maker's fortunes." https://www.reuters.com/business/intels-ceo-shortlist-candidates-include-former-board-member-lip-bu-tan-sources-2024-12-03/
