Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

How are some people not worried about layoffs?

On one hand, I wish I had the unshakable confidence of those who believe they’re immune to layoffs, and are walking through each day with a sense of security. On the other hand, I’m grateful for my awareness, because at least I’m prepared and won’t be caught off guard when the rug is yanked from under my feet.

"tell your manager you would be open to that"

No. Terrible advice unless you know your manager very well/personally.
Never ever show your cards. Never.
You are not there to save anyone nor will your actions make certain anyone's safety.

Quiet quitting is the way. All upside and zero downside.

My opinion,

If you really want to get let go, because you have a package waiting, tell your manager you would be open to that. 1) you get what you want, 2) you save someone else from being out on the list.

If you don’t want to go, I’d seriously consider 1) if you have a role that will withstand AI 2) if you are on a PIP or coaching plan 3) there is ANY level of conflict.

If you truly are a high performer and your role is needed, and you’re not ‘remote’, then you ‘might be ok’.

This will likely continue for the next 12+ months. If not more. Depends on AI… and that’s moving fast.

All of this and I would personally dust off that resume and start applying. If you have been, keep going. Next year will get better out there - even if not where you’re at now.

Again, just my opinion.

Well, with the new festive finish and bright beginnings DTS contest, the reward of an in person lunch. it's hard to focus on layoffs with this incredible prize offering.

It's not that we feel immune. We just don't care anymore. Frankly if your name is on the list there is little you can do about it, so why worry?

And if you want to be on the list, then go and ask. just about everyone I know who went to their manager and asked has gotten a standard severance package at the next opportunity.

I just don't care if I get laid off anymore. It's not that I dont feel like it could happen. I just stopped caring one way or the other. They control people with the fear. Jump through these hoops and maybe you'll be safe... I say fu-k the hoops and do your worst.

Those people invested early, and often, in knee pads.

worrying about what we know is beyond our control offers us little because solid and exceptional performers are let go too, it's just how it goes

Why worry about being laid off? At this point I am HOPING I get cut in February. This place is awful. Full stop. And the market is bad. Trust me I’m applying all over

Why worry or suffer from something that hasn't happened and you can't control?

Accepting that your worry will not have any impact on your employment helps a bunch. It isn't the easiest thing to do but is the only solution I know of. It took me years to quit caring about if...
