It was suggested that Lip Bu Tan wanted to see about a third of the company laid off.

I suspect that any further reductions are with a minimal exit package, and that the company needs to get down to something like 70k headcount for the individual parts to be able to be sold or merged with other companies.

The root problem is the desire to retain excess capacity, long past the time when it was ever to be needed again. Too many fabs, labs and design capabilities for the market share Intel in its current form will ever need.

Pat didn't create this problem but he did perpetuate it.
