Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

The fact that layoffs are indiscriminate does wonders for morale

I’m one of those who actually enjoy work, and have personal satisfaction from achieving good results and managing to find solutions and fixes. Simultaneously I feel like a fool for putting extra effort into everything I do. I’m fully aware that it will not make any difference when layoffs come. That realization ki-ls the joy.

Prioritize family, not work.

Becoming noncompetitive at work will not serve family over the long run.

Prioritize family, not work.

Cisco is a legacy network equipment company that relies on government contracts. "Good results" at Cisco are inconsequential and a waste of time.

If you want joy get a hobby.

Cisco's leadership said ages ago that any company that has to do annual layoffs is mismanaged and Cisco has been laying off far more than annually since 2001.

If you put in a lot of overtime but keep making the same mistakes you're in trouble. If you are actually growing skills and can keep a solid work ethic you'll be far more valuable than your peers when you seek your next job. Seeing the occasional slacker in a Home Depot uniform should be incentive to keep pushing.
