DIB will cease to exist as a stand alone group with a VP, and will just be another HR program by the end of 2025.

Why do you need an expensive program and an executive level position to treat everyone equally. Oxy headquarters has always had a very diverse workforce and from what I saw was always fair to everyone.
I don’t work at Oxy anymore, but I was familiar with the DIB program. Oxy’s DIB program was completely fine in my opinion. Everyone has heard of companies with radical diversity programs that are unfair and often make little sense. Oxy’s program was not one of those. Oxy’s program never showed any biases and was focused on EVERYONE feeling included. Even though lots of companies are dropping their diversity programs, I think Oxy should keep its DIB program.
Every company has some managers that don’t make their department’s employees feel warm and fuzzy inside. If it affects the ability of the department to perform, that company may need to deal with that manager in one way or another, including termination. That’s not a modern philosophy. It’s just good management. Having a DIB VP was never intended to fulfill that responsibility, only to virtue signal and avoid criticism. OP is right.
Perceptions and prejudices abound. Certain universities have a better shot at employment. Once you are in, forced rankings at appraisal takes what's fair and normalize over the corporation. Bosses have their class pets and they receive preferred treatment.
As soon as you know life isn't fair the better off you will be....
What ever happened to hiring the best even if they are all the same. If the hiring process is fair and they are the best candidates then they should be hired. Diversity doesn’t always give the best results if the quality of the mix suffers.
DIB isn’t an HR program. It is a management philosophy about valuing and including all employees.
Issue is not respect but representation.... Most of the senior roles are white males. This has always been an issue. I have worked with amazing female engineers, geologists and geophysicists that have not advanced as easily as their male counterparts. DEI however is not the answer...
DEI should of never been put in place, and HR should have control of the whole thing. The best of the best should be hired ever chance Oxy gets. All these clubs we have now should have never been put in place, because most of us are adults and know to respect each other. If you have employees that have to be reminded to be professional to all employees then they need to be fired. I personally take it as an insult that Oxy thinks we need to be reminded that there are certain groups of people that need respected. I for one could care less about an employee and what they do outside of the office. The way it is with most companies they push these DEI things, and it just makes some people just resent the whole thing. My family is at home and most of my friends outside of Oxy. I come to work to work, and that includes respecting people and being professional at all times to all people. If one can't do that wihout DEI and clubs then those people have bigger issues.
@upb+1vFHizEG, I think I might agree with you if I had a clue as to what you are saying. Try again with complete sentences.
Until the old boys club generation finally retires, selection and advancement will have little to do with DEI. WHO you know is still king in the patch. Being the friend of .... Is the gold standard. In my experience, HR has little stroke on these matters.
