Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

Trying to get laid off

I just spoke with a colleague that worked hard to get laid off and the severance.

Their tactic was pick the hardest, most favored team member and create arguments with them. The arguments demoralized everyone, and everyone knew who was causing the problem. HR could do nothing to punish the person causing the problem because it sounded like the troublemaker could have been right even for a fraction of the time. So he did not get fired or punished in any way.

They actually created a small layoff for him. He took 34 years of severance with him as he walked out the door. He did not feel the least bit guilty and did not care much about those left behind.

I dunno, I think its a sign of the culture now. Where Engineering isn't of any value anymore to a company. You're just a light bulb to be replaced once you burn out, and gaslight into staying with a company in the "socket" after you're already burnt out.

The culture is one of employees almost being encouraged to inform on one another. Conversations you have with colleagues, even overheard ones, or those outside of work, can land you in serious trouble. Even the most innocuous of things, could be misinterpreted and lead to serious ramifications.

Much of the incompetent garbage that passes for management at Rayptheon is paranoid over being exposes as useless frauds -- look at them the wrong way or appear too intelligent and your removal is assured.

that's fine if you have 34 years with RTN. Most severance packages only provide 1 week of pay for each year of service.... not much there if you think you're going to get a windfall
