Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

OR VSPs - unemployment approved or denied?

Hi,
VSPd on 09/30. Denied unemployment benefits from OR but I know one other VSPer was approved.

Trying to get a sense of whether others were approved or denied and whether worth appealing or not.

Thanks!

Unemployment isn't free money, we paid into it. And maybe it's not that the state isn't consistent, maybe it's how some are filing their claim. Voluntary Separation Package=CPM still= laid off. As someone said below, the company had a reduction, and we were laid off. Unemployment does not ask "did you volunteer for the layoff", it asks if you were laid off. If you said no, that's why you were denied. I took a "layoff" package. It's really not that hard folks.

Whether or not a voluntary separation qualifies for unemployment benefits the state should at least be consistent in doling out the free money. There are other factors like time of employment which are considered even if Intel doesn't contest the claim.

@1zas you're so full of it. It clearly stated in the agreement we signed with Intel that they were not to contest unemployment benefits. I filled it out and was granted benefits. CPM forms signed specifically said we could file for unemployment.

Your first clue is the 'V' for voluntary. You are not supposed to get benefits for that. My neighbor runs the department so I gave him heads up that people were applying with VSP. He will take care of it. If you electronic payments stop, you will know the glitch has been fixed.

"during the Covid times they were a nightmare literally"

When the Unemployment Office released their new online claimant system called "Frances" earlier this year, it was so broken for so long that many people who qualified for benefits couldn't collect, exhausted their savings, and couldn't pay their bills. The phone lines were always jammed due to inadequate staffing, so actually getting through to a person was like winning the lottery.

And don't get me started on the Oregon DMV data breech last year where millions of data records for Oregon driver's licenses, permits and ID cards were accessed.

The state of Oregon is incompetent when it comes to anything computer software related.

I took VSP and left on 09/30. I applied for OR Unemployment and was approved. I'm getting $800+ a week. I know another person who is also getting it and one who was denied. It seems all very random. Even though it was voluntary, I would not have taken ER unless offered, so that is considered a workforce reduction either way in my mind.

You might be out of luck. I know someone who asked their manager for an ISP, rather than applying for VSP, for this specific reason.

OR unemployment services is worthless, don't expect a lot of help from them finding another job. With that said, a VSP is voluntary which means that if you accepted it, then you voluntarily agreed to exchange your job for a payout, and likely wouldn't qualify for unemployment benefits anyway.

I was also VSPd on 9/30. Denied! So frustrating.

Maybe you still have bigger VSP package to be denied now?

I got laid off and denied... when you need them OR unemployment fails...

On the other hand. Most laid off people have no package and really do need the money to survive.

All in all, can't really complain too much.
