Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Getting lowballed offer

Gr6 FE design engineer at AZ. Applied for AMD same grade position. Pay package is lower than at INTC. Is it a general issue in tech/ semicon sector right now ?

Take the job at AMD. Figure out what the next job you want is, then work 60+ hours a week to get the skills you need and apply for that job in a year.. or just leave when the climate is better.

There are only two numbers that matter here:

  1. Your Intel current pay (what you have in hand) combined with very negative future prospects, OR
  1. The market rate best offer you can get from another company where the future may be a bit brighter then Intel

Since you are an engineer and this is not rocket science you can judge for yourself which option is best for you.

yes, probably a wicked depression
eventually the debt (or bill) comes due

Take the offer and keep actively looking & interviewing. Give yourself a maximum of 12 months at AMD and move on. The landscape will be far different than it is today.

yeah great idea... play hardball in negotiations when your best alternative is the unemployment line... or the job search doom loop...

Never take the first offer - propose something higher if you can support it with some data from current job or levels or linked in for other similar jobs

The job market is slim out there. Corporations know they can lowball the people applying. If I had a job offer from AMD even if it was lower, I would take it. Intel isn't done laying off. They're probably not getting any CHIP money. They may not offer severance like they have in the past, maybe just a few bucks but nothing worth holding out for. If AMD has good benefits, accept the offer. Intel is a sinking ship with selfish leaders.

I would strongly advise you to take what offer is available out there.
The layoffs in INTEL might not be over.
The chips act money may not be coming in any time soon.
18A looks like it will take like a lot and I mean a LOT more time.

Good grief! Accept the AMD job offer and don't look back. Intel won't be around within 5 years.

The IT job market is poor right now, and even worse for ex-Intel people. Be grateful you landed a job offer.

@OP

And message to everyone. You will not upgrade when leaving Intel. The sooner everyone understands and accepts this the better. Your next position will be “worse” this is due primarily to intel’s horrible reputation throughout the industry. If you are expecting to get a raise or promotion through job switching to a new company it won’t happen. Sorry I know it su-ks but it is truth. Intel is a red flag blemish on your resume and is looked down upon. If you can accept this and that you will have to accept a lower position then you currently have you will be better of.

Is right. They know they can low ball you. And honestly you should take it. You are one of the lucky ones with a path out so take it

You may be better off at Intel, I took the chance and came to AMD with similar pay - but work culture and work itself su-ks here - I am willing to take the first decent offer just to get out of here.

Only for folks from Intel since they know you're coming from a sinking ship. They're taking advantage of the situation.
