Has anyone here had experience with whistleblowing? Do the they take it seriously? Any backlash stories?

it depends. I reported a bully case of a people manager and the conclusion is that it is not a bully case but SAP doesn't accept it. However, the top manager said "we should not punish people and we should agree on disagree"
depends on the issue. for me, I reported someone for as--ult and was told, one time is an error and not punishable. it's still says that in the employee handbook.
Juergen Mueller was not let go because of a whistleblower, he was let go because his offense was in public and other people saw it. had nobody seen it, he would still be going along business as usual. we know this because it was not his first offense, just the first in public.
I was retaliated against. 0.0% merit increase, the only goose egg in my team. Filed a report with ethics & compliance & participated in resultant interviews. Then never heard a word except that they laid off investigators and that in the 4Q of every year, the backlog skyrocketed so “be patient”. I changed teams for a very good final year then accepted the VERP in April. A lot depends on how “wild Wild West” your market unit is tolerated to be. Be careful and have an exit strategy.

Be very wary. Doing this opens the door to reverse review by auditors that have way too much power.
The review team that handle your case have full autonomy over your scenario. If for whatever reason they find you to be the cause of the issue, you are then under review.
You are at the mercy of both their ability to understand and empathize in your favor.
They are a very weak team.

It will get answered by the compliance team but they will ask you to disclose your identity to understand the context, case and will seek tangible evidences.
No guarantee that they will act on it and no guarantee that it could get leaked back to your people manager. It happened in some instances. But that’s another story.
the perception of even a small hint of backlash is so discouraging for the employee and also for the reputation of teh company... That tells the trust lost between the company and the employees if this is a common view. (we dont know)
Be careful. People who did as much as be involved in the SVB elections as electors are being audited by Compliance right now. Just because they belong to a true Union,not a yellow one.
Yes and the backlash depends on how much you are willing to disclose your identity and how much the company wants to hide the matter.
