Why lay off people who want to be here when there are so many who want to leave with severance? I know of two people who would be more than happy to volunteer if they were given a chance. It makes no sense to keep them and get rid of some of us who truly need these jobs, who are giving it our all, and who want to stay.

What was the severance package? 1 month per year of service with 12 month cap + 60 days or worse?

Because it depends on performance as well? If that person gives 10% and still outperforms your sorry a-s, then why should you be kept?

Can you picture how many would sign up if Visa did ask for volunteers or how much talent would leave? That's why they won't do it.
Agreed. Visa should offer a volunteer/retirement option. I know of people that are waiting to get paid to leave.

My department made a Huge mistake by eliminating me. The person who decided to eliminate me had no idea the amount of work I was doing. No regrets, best severance gift package I received :)
