Intel’s Oregon layoffs by the numbers: VPs, fellows and engineering all took hits

https://www.oregonlive.com/silicon-forest/2024/10/intels-oregon-layoffs-by-the-numbers-vps-fellows-and-engineering-all-took-hits.html?outputType=amp

The numbers indicate that Intel laid off 10 vice presidents, including five vice presidents of software engineering. The company also laid off 10 Intel fellows, a title held by many of its most accomplished and experienced researchers.

Morale is horrible, but recovering at the lower levels. They did layoff bad engs as well as engs that they should have kept. Only techs that I know were let go for bad performance. Management doesn't seem to have taken many hits that we could tell. VPs did take some chunky hits though, they probably weren't forced and made it really worth it given the comms and transition plans from the people leaving.

How do intel decided who is going?at the tech levels ,do they consider preformance or just take out the ones with 57 grades that have the high pay?

The anthropologist is the most lucky person in the universe. Meanwhile, RCGs are being laid off to save costs.

Is Genevieve Bell still on the payroll?

I don’t believe these numbers or those VPs, fellows are real. They may trick some id--t guys to accept some fake temporary high pay VP positions then announcing laying them off while those actual VPs, fellows are sill hiding in their cubes doing some grade 5 or 6 engineering jobs.

I can only believe Intel’s management is serious when they lay off Intel’s resident anthropologist, who reached the senior fellow status (no wonder why Intel can’t innovate better technology products anymore because we promote anthropologists to the highest technical levels) before moving to Australia and taking another job but surprisingly still in intel’s payroll since 2016 under Rich U, Intel labs.

I don’t believe these Walt bozos or Pat one bit with their cost cutting efforts as long as they keep her and Pat’s neighbor and friend Nick in intel’s payroll after laying off thousands of employees. There are many other zombie friends and family but these two do not even come to the office and delivery anything

Those are not actual numbers of VP’s. Out of those 10 they were mostly volunteers that they worked a package for. Not any real cuts. Maybe sales did some real cuts. I heard that HR did not have any forced VP cuts…. They kept everyone. It is protectionism at the top.

Intel has always had too many VPs. They could stand to cut many more. Just ask the worker bees.

What kind of morale is it setting for the people currently there? That their hard work won’t matter at the end of it since it is not performance based. With the high earner worker bees gone in this round, in the next round who is it going to be? Again worker bees (module engineers and technicians) or atleast some VPs. With the high performers gone so many teams are going to burn out so badly. We keep hearing TSMC has lesser head count then what does it do better than intel to not collapse? May be it hires actual Managers for the tough Job.

@wss good one. Had the same feeling. I was probably the 10th on the list. Glad they kept it to 8

10 VPs? Nope that’s a lie.

Oregonian updated the article. Only 8 VPs. Whew. Was getting worried people that make the horrible decisions that causes us to get where we are would be held accountable. Can’t have that.

“ Justin said will lay off 30-40% VP”

He lied. That’s what ELT does. They lie in open forums and tell you VPs will be impacted as well to shut you up for 45 minutes. Then they get back to protecting the elites.

Oh wow. Only 10 VPs. After what they all told us about hitting them at same percentage. Weird. They lied. And protected their own and put it all on rank and file.

Again.

Here is my shocked face

First they complain there is a shortage of engineers in chip manufacturing, and then they go down the hill and layoff all those engineers who do have the experience. USA is going in the wrong direction when it comes to the tech competition again China.
