Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Mandate for Return to Office

Are they completely out of touch? Everyone is saying that the return to office mandate has had a negative impact, and they are responding in the “Ask Me Anything” meeting that the return to work has been positive. Are you kidding me???? They are not even addressing the comments in the chat regarding employees feeling angry and feeling unconsidered. This will also affect hiring as the remote work is an incentive for the very low salaries for highly educated people. TR needs to get a clue and listen or they will lose many people. If we have to commute, why not get a decent paying job somewhere else.

So it’s great unless you want or need to get work done.

RTO is great. Work strict 9 to 5, no more accommodating the work hours of global workforce. Meetings are delayed by weeks to find mutually convenient time, more coffee breaks and strolls around the campus with colleagues, more games with colleagues. The work pace is more mindful with RTO.

We all have very difficult times...make sure you do not do any knowledge transfer to offshore teams (it is none of your responsibility first of all unless your role is to be a trainer and second off all remember times you spent on your own to learn to be able to do the job and mainly outside of the working hours )...slooow down the process of any KT 😉 offshore teams have low quality and they just wait for you to tell them what to do if you don't it will get them years to learn and they never will have high quality of knowledge as you have (we all know why). Be smart corpo is corpo and play their game smart...it is not against others from offshore but well corpo need to get kick in their a.s, so play the cards well 👍

@dsi+1v6hOogU 10000%. They've been ignoring and flat out deleting questions they don't like for ages. The idea of the "Trust Principle" is a joke. I wouldn't trust them to do my grocery shopping.

It’s not uncommon for companies, when expanding operations overseas (e.g., in India or Mexico), to gradually transition the majority of the work to those locations to save $$. Over time, the U.S. staff may be relegated to oversight roles. If the arrangement proves successful, companies might slowly reduce the U.S. workforce, often by implementing policies such as mandatory RTO, even when there are few or no remaining coworkers in the office due to earlier layoffs.

Additional steps might include freezing raises, offering minimal bonuses, or assigning U.S. employees to oversee offshore teams without giving them meaningful responsibilities. This process, often referred to as "quiet firing," aims to create conditions that encourage voluntary resignations. Taking a page from the "quiet quitters".

Ultimately, the goal may be to shift entirely to overseas operations, with little to no U.S. support remaining.

Pretty Standard process for the “all hands” meetings.
They send out a few emails prior to a “All Hands” meeting, asking for recipients to submit any questions they would like to be address at the meeting.
They Vet the questions sent in prior and pick the ones they want to address. They say the words like “excited” and “exciting” to the point of a great drinking game, and ignore questions in the chat deemed not aligned to their agenda or dims the “excitement” saying that they will “make sure to answer any questions they didn’t have time for” offline which doesn’t happen. Somethings anywhere, are just the way they are.

How long are the leases in effect?

They have to pretend we like this so they can justify leasing and owning their d-mb buildings. It’s just money considerations to them. Employee opinions have never mattered at this company.
