3M evolving WYW, it's official on 3M Go

Check under the Work Your Way FAQs.

  1. Why is 3M evolving work your way and if money collaboration days?? We need to reinvigorate growth and continue to improve our operational performance. To help do that, we will introduce Collaboration days to help nurture a culture of collaboration, learning and problem solving.

From what my manager said, this will start in November and the collaboration days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

They must have truncated that statement. The left off the part about how the insecure boomers in charge miss the era where your worth was determined by hours spent on-site vs. actual work completed.

I give high praise to the creators of WYW. Lokken no longer in her future of work role. I'm sure she was pushed out due to BB wanting it his way. High praise to her for having a future looking, trust based view versus the new "babysitting" view. How d-mb.

I can't wait to spend 20 minutes adjusting my monitor and chair and wiping strangers germs off my keyboard every day...said no one ever. If you want us back, give us assigned desks.

This has nothing to do with HR or the "Future of Work Manager." This is really very simple: "Work Bill's Way"

“We’ve always been a global company, and our teams will continue growing in a distributed way,” she says. “A third of our managers have a direct report in another country; we need to work in a way that adapts to that new reality, of mainly hybrid, distributed teams.”

“3M is very much a science-based company; following the evidence and the science is really at the heart of everything we do,” Lokken says. “The evidence so far suggests this model is working.”

It’s ok to have to go back into an office for a few days, lots of companies are doing it. Interesting all the comments about having to buy clothes, a car and adjust daycare. Assume this will be called out on earnings call tomorrow and execs are hoping for another stock bump. You’ll be ok.

HR themselves had only been piloting anchor days one day a week. Why the jump to 3 days? Did the data from HR say that 1 was not enough? Did they then pilot 3? Why not? They seem to talk a lot about medical appointments which tells me they really don’t get how people have morphed the fundamental logistics of their lives, gotten rid of cars, changed childcare logistics and that took many months to change after 2020. Hard for folks to undo that all in 2 weeks. People may need to buy a car, get different childcare, honestly buy clothes, the list goes on. I think November is a slap on the face. If they sadistically want to do this, then by God do a January start!

3M, with all of your researchers where is your evidence that RTO is better? Oh wait you can't produce anything because you do not have any.

How come the strategy teams that built and implemented WYW are still here strategizing? What about the HR team that is busy planning our " Future of Work Manager" etc.? If there's no money to update office spaces at 3M Center, people are going to hate it!

Bloomberg has the story:

The 50 mile threshold seems random and subject to further discussion. What if - for instance - someone gets their mail at one address but actually lives at another that’s more than 50?

What if I’m Jg16+ and live in Florida as we know many do ? Can others more farther away to avoid the in office requirement ?

This dispute is going to happen which is why I think eventually it’s going to transition to 5 days/week and won’t matter where one lives.

This is just step 1.

I feel like I need to wear all black as I will be mourning the life I had. 1 day a week would have been a decent place to start. But 3!? I am kind of shocked, but I guess this sure will be a great way to get some people to quit and not have to pay severance. So good work there you brilliant c suite people. What if everyone I work up thru lives in CA, NY, and FL?

Just work with your manager and senior leaders. They always have all the answers.

Where do I even go? I have no office on campus. Am I supposed to drive to campus to 'hotel' at a random desk just to call into the same meetings on MS Teams, but wearing headphones? This su-ks.

This statement is something

  1. What happens if I don’t come on-site for Collaboration Days at 3M Center?

JG 16+ (and equivalents): Senior leaders are expected to come on-site and lead by example, creating an environment for collaboration, connection, learning and problem solving.

Below JG 16: For those at 3M Center, we encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities and shift your mindset from “virtual-first” to “in-person more often.” There will be certain meetings that your manager will set reasonable expectations for you to attend in-person. They will work with you if you are not attending, just as they would when any other work expectation isn’t being met.
