I feel like I work under leadership who are tweaked out all the time. I’ve seen so many meetings at all levels get randomly cancelled, pushed up, pushed back. Some to be expected after layoffs but breathe, have a coffee and sit down and figure your sh-t out.

I’ve seen most of the leaders stay during the layoff and some barely have any direct reports after. They need to liquidate like half of this stuff they’re redundant and will do anything to stay employed. Anyway I think this town hall has some cringe messaging about pre show fun so I can’t imagine there will be more layoff news. This is not a secretive meeting, they have it in the headquarters cafeteria.

The evidence of Farah’s newly conferred power at CVS is indicated by a single word: “executive.” He had already been chairman of the board for two years, but the difference between chairman and executive chairman is all the difference in the world. Directors who aren’t company employees do not have executive responsibilities. But “executive chair means executive management,” says Charles Elson, a corporate governance expert who has served on multiple boards. “When you’re executive chair, the buck stops with you. You’re the real CEO.”

The strange dynamic with the change in leadership is Roger Farah was named “Executive of the Board of Directors” and David Joyner is the “CEO” and not “Executive CEO”. This means Roger Farah is running the company and making the operational decisions. Joyner is the face of the company, but not making the operational decisions.

Can’t run a company solely with vendors. They have to keep employees.

If the decision to out KL was on the cards for sometime, the best course for DJ would have been to let her announce the highest layoffs and do fewer layoffs to get the confidence of the employees which he will need to if he needs to turn it around.

It would be pretty standard to have a “hi I’m Joyner, KL has chosen to step down (yeah ok buddy) the board says thank you to her for her service, I look forward to leading, blah blah blah”

I’m sure there will be much sentiment of “we need to make tough choices in the upcoming months” aka “you will be lucky to be employed by the official q3 town hall”
