Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Anyone heard of the 50 miles rule for WFO ?

Any idea how it works and where it will be applied in the world ?

Worst company I've ever worked for.

Period.

I wonder is it even possible to go around the 50 mile rule with remote contracts in countries with labour unions

In Ireland, companies are forced to provide a remote option to the employee or else they have to explain to the government why the employee needs to go to the office.

No matter what, you are doomed at bcom.

Accept it and make plans. Just a matter of time.

@4zvh+1v52yyJR, that has basically always been the rule. Your role and seniority play a major part in whether they let you work remote. If you have a lot of experience and have skills they cannot find easily, they might let you be remote. My BU has plenty of remotes. If you are younger and in engineering, you have little chance of being allowed to be remote.

I am a remote full-timer here and am not going to move. I rarely need PTOs as every day is a vacation, and I don't need sick days either. I am far more productive than anyone who is RTO, as my attendance is nearly 100%. I should deserve bonus ranking 1 every round.

Heard recently from manager in Palo Alto that the former "50-mile rule" no longer exists. The only two exemptions from commuting to office 5 days a week are medical or business/role related.

If you're in the Symantec/ESG business unit, needless to say, this is bad news, especially if you worked at an office location that no longer exists and the new commute is north of two hours one way.

Things are going to get wild soon.

You‘re either a new joinee or must be living under a rock to not have known about the 50 mile rule

50 miles measured by zip code of the office and your zip code. Commute time doesn’t matter either, 20 mins or 2 hours. The attendance slides during the coffee talk are all that matter. “Butts in seats” is the name of the game.

If you’ve been assigned an office and told to return to work from that office, distance does not matter.

50 miles "as the crow flies". Doesn't matter if you have to drive 60+m each way.

Hock himself can’t RTO due to bad health. The office comes to him.

Historically there’s always talk of RTO every year especially for offices that have low attendance. 50 miles is usually the radius for “you should be in the office” but it can vary from team/BU.
