Please give this an up arrow if it was helpful. Let's take back this board from the fear mongering!
I was recently laid off from Optum 3 weeks ago. it su-ks. I totally get it. I keep checking this board to see if it's even worth it to reapply with Optum.
FOR THE STILL-EMPLOYED
Save more money...really. You'll need liquid assets if you get laid off and knowing that you have enough to keep your lights on is a big comfort.
Talk to EAP. They're paid to listen to you freak out. I've freaked out at them for hundreds of hours at this point.
Volunteer for ad hoc requests. Even if you have to work OT, it might be worth it to stand out and prove your value for one more day.
Stop checking this board 10 times a day. I know you're doing it. I did it for months. You know what happens? You get so paranoid, you can't function. Check on Thursdays and leave it alone 6 days a week.
FOR THE "AFFECTED"
I've been putting together resources because "WTH do I do now??" was on repeat in my head for days without end.
"Taking Control of the Next Step", an article on LinkedIn that walks you through what you can do to plan and stop the freakouts (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/taking-control-next-step-linda-walberg-nxvuc/?trackingId=tSUQMC%2FdRoyd4YClZxHwDA%3D%3D)
"Managing Your Emotions After Being Laid Off", a Harvard Business Review article that acknowledges the emotional stuffs of being laid off (https://hbr.org/2023/01/managing-your-emotions-after-being-laid-off)
ZenSearch is a web-based app that scrapes the job boards for you, lets you filter to your job type and preferences, and emails you a menu of jobs that might fit. I do recommend you try it first before signing up. I hate when I have to sign up for something before finding out if I like it. (https://zensearch.jobs/)
