Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

GM's 3rd Quarter Results

If you want to cut the drama and find out how well GM is really doing, GM is announcing it's 3rd quarter earnings next Tuesday at 8:30am. In the past, when GM was in the red, you could always count on mass layoffs because it's a corporation and corporations must show shareholders that they are "doing something" to become lean, efficient and focused. If Q3 shows record profits, there should be no need for any mass layoff in the immediate future.

Here's the rub: People who are based in reality are often winners. They don't buy into hype, identity, folklore or fear and put their time, money and hard work into winning strategies rather than complain and feel sad. Let them down-vote. The rest of us will focus on being high earners for our families, looking at the competitive environment for opportunities and just being good people in general.

You are right and the number of folks that up vote that posters misinformation is amazing.

"They cut people before Q3 to make the figures nice as well"

This is misinformation. We flesh out very detailed sales figures in the annual report.
Trimming staff IS NOT INCOME. See page 67 of the last annual report.
You will see itemized 'net sales and revenue', including Vehicle, parts and accessories, Leased vehicle income, services, Finance charge income and other income.

Please do not guess with authority. It's dangerous and promotes negativity.
The fact is that General Motors is highly profitable, pays generous dividends to shareholders and is still one of America's biggest manufacturing employers.

It is not surprising.

They cut people before Q3 to make the figures nice as well and used normal their overestimation accounting techniques.

This good report does not mean they will not still be reducing headcount between now and February 2025.

Must be bad? Is that why we didn’t get a merit increase this year? Probably
