Thread regarding Optum layoffs

It's all in the earnings call!

Take a look at the earnings call from this week and it will tell you all you need to know. Witty gets asked a question about cost cutting and gives this quote "So we have been relentless around how can we find sustainable cost reductions for the organization, particularly in both businesses. You see this year, I'd say, Optum, in particular, has been doing a remarkable job of taking cost out. I think there's more to go, and we will be very relentless about that." They are not even hiding that this is the plan. If you are wondering if your job is at risk the answer is YES. Don't believe any corporate townhall speak. Good luck to all of us in the coming days and months.

"Optum only exists now to funnel money to India. Question is, why does UHG allow it? Are they really blinded by short-term profits for long-term infrastructure problems caused by sh---y code and poor implementations? Is a multi-billion dollar company really this stupid?"

Long term jobs for executives no longer exist. "Long Term" is 4-5 years, and the CFO or even CEO is off to ruin an other company. They lower costs and outsource everything to India, collect their bonuses, and are off to their next gig bragging about how much they lowered costs. They don't have to live with the consequences of their actions. Then the next guy comes in, brings tech back to the US, spends money to get it done, product gets better, and he leaves or gets fired for spending too much money. Rinse...repeat.

Everything that has been happening in Optum this year reminds me of when I was at Ascension Health in IT a few years ago. They would layoff, then reorg, layoff, reorg and say that they were just trimming the fat so to speak. We would ask if they were going to get rid of all of us and Laura Young Shehada and Eduardo Conrado lied and said absolutely not. Well, they outsourced basically all of IT to India to a company that basically had no knowledge of the Electronic Health Record that they were taking over. When they were called out for lying, they just said that they had to lie or else, we would have found other jobs before they were ready to get rid of us and that would have hurt the company.

And rest assured, cost cutting measures do not include senior leaders and executives forgoing or reducing THEIR BONUSES, just us worker bees that actually need that money.

Watching in horror as so many good people are let go today. How many jobs could be saved if the execs would just fly commercial instead of on private jets?

Just look at the job boards. They are mainly hiring in India.

Yeah you are a cost and you will ruthlessly be dealt with LOL. And he blames the fact our tax dollars won't pay him for overcoding risk adjustment that doesn't actually get spent on treatment. LMFAO!

Wow. Glad to know I’m just a “cost”. This place is evil.

It is time for Whitty to go. As an employee and investor, I decry him a talking head. He talks, he has no sense of what is right or wrong, no sense of right or wrong. He does not have enough imagination to increase profit in our giant “too big to fail” corporation without cheating the law, his employees, his investors, and worst yet, his members? In short, UHG brought on a sociopath, or maybe even a psychopath. And no one of authority CALLS HIM OUT?! I ask for transparency and a call to do the RIGHT thing, UHG. Resign, Sir Whitty. Go home.
