Was on an Optum riff last year (and was fortunately rehired to a different department). In talking to others, it seems like use of "quick" as in quick connect or quick update and "must attend" are the keys to the "you are going to be riffed" meeting. Good luck to everyone cut this round.
I’m in pharmacy, received an invite for tomorrow (Friday) - it’s about half our team. Not sure if it’s good or bad
Anyone get the all employee meeting invite for the 22nd? Supposed to be with the CFO. It seemed kind of odd to me. Optum employee here.
I got a Teams invite for a “quick touch base” right after one of my coworkers had told us they had been riffed. Since I knew what was coming, I had the call on speaker and recorded it on my phone, and asked a couple questions, one of which is important to any of us - “am I eligible for rehire”. The recording was unnecessary since I’ve since landed elsewhere, but I was glad I got the words recorded. The whole thing is scripted BTW. And as others have said in the past, there are some specific dos and don'ts - don’t send anything to yourself electronically (feel free to print!) and if you haven’t maxed out your 401k and taken your floating holiday, now is the time. Floater likely won’t be accepted if you take it in the 2 weeks after layoff, but if anyone is on here that hasn’t taken it, just do it. Good luck all
when I got laid off back in the spring, there was no meeting. my manager messaged me via teams and asked if I had time for a chat early in the morning (before 9AM iirc). it was on that call I was told I was being laid off.
I was part of the last round of layoffs. I found out around 1pm and got the meeting invite about 5 minutes before.
Best wishes for all!
could be a survivor meeting
If you get an invite, does it mean you are impacted? The invite was sent to my whole dept which has 39 people. Are they really cutting everyone?
I was in the July 18 reduction in force (quickly hired into a completely different department in Optum). The meeting invitation came in some time between late after hours 7/17 and start of business 7/18. The invitation was for 15 minutes right at the beginning of the workday and was titled "Important Information to Share-Must Attend." I actually missed the meeting because I was on PTO starting that day. I knew what that kind of invite meant when I saw it and called the manager who invited me mid-morning. Sending love to all, hoping you get the outcome you prefer.
My entire team was cut (including manager) I woke up and logged on and the invite had been sent around 7:30/8am that morning for a 15 minute “quick connect” with a senior leader for 9:45am. I also saw my manager had cancelled all team meetings. When I got on the call, she read from a script. It was only her & I on this call.
We got ours on the Tuesday before our Thursday afternoon meeting. By then we already knew what was coming and some people had some opinions to voice.
Last round of layoffs - received invitation the night before, I believe it was called something like "Market update"
Laid off in April - meeting invite came in about 30 minutes prior to meeting time, was titled “Quick Touch Base.”
Last round of layoffs- the meeting invites went out the evening before (after 5pm)
