RTO in so many cases doesn’t make sense

So many of us work with international teams. WFH allows flexibility required for such a setting. Long commute so many people would have to do now is just a loss of time and money. Spending time in offices or hubs is just an extra expense. In the majority of cases RTO would contribute to nothing in terms of productivity. And please don’t immediately dismiss people for advocating against RTO - all of us are as hardworking as the rest of you, there are metrics to prove it. Many of us are paid less as well. This isn’t about being lazy or considering WFH a privilege, it is about RTO, as I mentioned in a title, being completely pointless in the vast majority of cases.

Was in the office for a few days last summer. Spent most of the time socializing, drinking free coffee, using the gym, checking my phone, leaving campus for errands, and overall being there for about 5-6 hrs a day. Its actually quite nice because i have the cover of “having to be at work” from my spouse, so i get away from the kids, but also dont have to mentally be there anymore than when im at home. Actually it feels like mentally i can work less because my physical presence is an alibi for my output, (of which there is very little when im in the office). Best part is company also pays for my meals and expenses just for me to visit so its like a little vacation from the family with some work on the side.

Most Minnesota based companies are already in the office already. It was bound to happen. The experiment of working from home is over.

All employees who moved to tax free states during Covid, to increase their take home pay should have to come back to the office or lose their jobs. Why should they be exempt because they are now out of state?

I totally agree with the person who asks for 10% of WFH employees salary, this makes sense but would never go through, the worker bees are in for a terrible year with cuts all over worldwide plants just because inventory adjustment will take another six months to sort out and by that time, more orders will be lost, EO and PG in particular, should be hounded hourly about the complete gash of a job they are doing, now its all hands to the pumps and brainless process engineers will BS the plants with waste value adjustsments that many process operators know are just pie in the sky,

Too many managers want to play “office”. Go to the executive dining room, have their admin run errands and take care of whatever they need, feel important and powerful and have an office where they feel like a king/queen. What do they actually do all day? Sit in meetings and listen and make comments. That’s it. They are bored and they work not for the money but for the power. Let us just be honest. It isn’t fun to be king if no one is in the kingdom to kiss b!!t

For those of us working with an international team, many like me have “old school” senior managers. They want anyone in the US who reports to them in the office so they can “see their faces” (which is a direct quote from my manager). These same managers are okay with direct reports who are based outside the US attending meetings through Teams. I see everyone’s face on Teams. These same senior managers also micromanage, have no empathy, and have focused their entire lives working at 3M. They never had the luxury of WFH until Covid, truly feel people only work when they are in the office, and find it hard to micromanage when people WFH.

I'm at the age where I'm doing the mentoring, not being mentored, so I gain very little by being I'm the office, but I do think it must be hard to learn as a younger employee.

On the other hand, I'm not paid extra for being an effective mentor. There's no incentive for me to do any of the things that are best facilitated by being in the office, the things I am measured in are easiest to do in an environment without distractions, so there's no reason I would want to be in the office.

i think a 10% reduction of salary should be given to all WFH employees and all Production employees be given that 10% between them, it is they who drive to work or use public transport that digs a hole in their salary, also adds more hours to their day whereas WFH are saving a nice amount not doing so

There are cases where working from home is beneficial. And there are cases where being at the hub is beneficial. On the technical side you just simply can not mentor and learn over the phone or on Teams.
