Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

People who are left realize they are in a dying dinosaur

I've been through layoffs at this company many times before. These rounds have been by-far the most demoralizing. The vast majority of the people left don't see how they can continue with their workloads with a barebone staff. Lots of nepotism left people around who are not very helpful and got "heavy lifters" laid off. Nickelodeon especially. Seems like current management doesn't care what happens to the company they are suppose to be running and realized the IP is the only value left. Its worth realizing that all the brands we think are huge - working inside the company - are not that big of a deal in the current marketplace and are mostly nostalgia. VMAs? They don't matter anymore like every other award show, they claim the viewership is low because of streaming but the reality is both tentpole events AND key shows like reality shows have been replaced by social media and NEW MEDIA. A podcast is higher ROI and higher impact than a news show like TDS can ever be.

People who are left realize they are in a dying dinosaur that will eventually end up like PanAM, only a cultural reference, not relevance.

Management shooting themselves even more in the foot with the sloppy integration of AI. The images used for their Ad Manager on social media is so sloppy it's been turned into a meme on facebook groups. Messed up faces, generic copy, colors off, very sloppy because they fired everyone.

Sorry for ranting but after making it through all the rounds so far (next one is in December) i don't see how this company can successfully operate at a competitive level.

Amazon, Netflix, Youtube and other big tech companies must be laughing to the bank and hiring up all the fresh fruit that dropped onto the market place.

Well said. I was scrolling through our board to catch up on rumors, and came across this post. It would be a shame if it’s lost in replies. Copied from @5wrs+1uOipFL4.

15 yrs ago is about right - when local Emmy's started introducing online categories at the end of ceremonies & broadcast nominees started intentionally talking over introductions to the latter categories & walking out early in effort to face the future lalndscape

Ftv live guy says CBS O&O stations looking to ramp up OMB (one-man- bands) which means techs that can shoot/edit/truck which means videographer - video edit - live truck operator * some of us prefer to explain our posts so other various employee groups understand... Rather than pompous inside-baseball jargon posted by losers on this site all the time... In any event this supports rumor of layoffs in news and being after elections ( because of the timing) also a warning to the dinosaurs & ibew 1212 ( tech union for NYC & the other O&O's) also the recent chatter of news layoffs going to be a lot more than the rumored 100

“um really. you didn't know that 15 years ago? you didn't see internet taking over with it'd growth. you ARE a dinosaur and should have been let go“

I don’t want to defend Paramounts inability to have long term vision, but don’t be a troll. Instagram is only 13 years old. Netflix only started streaming their own content in 2011 with House of Cards. Before that it had merely destroyed blockbuster.

Then again I’m surprised you are taking time to enlighten us from your yacht after you were surely an initial investor in all these “disrupting” companies … amazing how your incredible foresight was backed by putting your money where your mouth is.

Everyone in this thread: we are in the presence of greatness, a modern day tech Nostradamus who predicted the future. Maybe you could help us all by telling us who the next nvidia is.
