Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Walgreens work culture in Deerfield

Interested to know how the work culture is here, as I am about to take on a position in engineering here. Are there any layoffs going on here in Corporate at Deerfield?

In this website, you’re likely to see more disappointments, frustrations, and negativity, alongside a few positives which can be rare. That’s often the reality, isn’t it? Many of these feelings are valid, stemming from the hardships individuals facing or have faced, particularly those who have been with Walgreens for a long time/even short stint. Loyalty can sometimes feel unreciprocated, and experiences of mistreatment can be common. This isn’t unique to Walgreens and happens everywhere.

People may disagree with my perspective, as many draw from their own experiences, teams, or departments, which can differ widely. However, it’s true that many are here out of disappointment, reflecting the challenges we've seen over the past several/few years. Unsteady leadership has complicated matters over the time, with new initiatives often leading to more issues rather than solutions. Fixing Walgreens the way people want is no easy task IMO, and this challenge isn’t isolated to us; many retailers and companies are facing similar struggles.

Corporate cuts down any trees—whether you’re tall, short, or anything in between, it doesn’t matter. The impact of these decisions reaches everyone, and the consequences can be tough for all involved, families and extended circle of that person or families and further.

If you’re looking for a positive take from this layoff tracker website, I admire your optimism.

What I can offer is this: Walgreens presents a vast ocean of opportunities for learning and growth, which I believe is undeniable regardless of current challenging environment we are in at this company. Most people here are genuinely friendly and helpful that I have seen over the past 15 years here. If you find a good position with decent pay—and that’s ultimately a personal decision—then I encourage you to explore it. Just be mindful that, like many organizations, there may be limited merit increases and bonuses, which is a challenge across various industries today.

Keep an open mind and consider having a backup plan ready for any potential challenges that may arise.

Good luck to you (:

ok, can someone seriously chime in. I'm also considering an offer I received for a role in Deerfield ~160k base, and wondering if it's worth the relocation. I see nothing but negative post on here.

If you have other options, stay away from Walgreens. Management is the worst. Pay is terrible.

Perfect place for someone who isn’t afraid of challenges. Many opportunities to grow and develop new solutions for some biggest deployments out there. Not a great fit for lazy admins looking for place to hide.

Well you won’t get a merit increase and IF you do it’s a 1-1.5% at best. Usually no bonus the past few years. They expect you to do the job of multiple people, horrible culture and leaders. I wouldn’t take a job here.

Just keep your head down and mouth shut and you’ll do fine.

Not the place to ask this question. Most people on this site are mad because they couldn’t hack it and were laid off.

Don't put your trust in Neal, you'll end up regretting it.

Yes. They aren’t supposed to be backfilling roles, and the CEO basically said himself “there are 400 open positions, why don’t we get rid of those before doing layoffs”.

This isn’t a bait post?

Because no, if anything there’s a planned increase is specific engie roles. Hence why you prob got a recent offer.
