How come some many people are being hired?
Where is Jane. Why are meetings getting cancelled again. It feels something is up. At the office nobody talks to anyone. Weird place
I’m in the “I don’t give a sh-t phase”.. I see my work load (and that of my team) being automated, reduced in scope and potentially offshored. It’s. Just a matter of when. I’d say 6-18 months. I don’t have a banking background (my last banking job was retail out of college at First Union LOL so I have better options than most here but I’m also at the end of my career runway. Suffering from inertia right now though getting another job and hassle of navigating a new org just isn’t appealing.
For me, actually, no. I have been conditioned over the years to be numb by it all.
“You’re safe and get to stay”……sweet.
“Sorry, you have to be let go”….sweet.
“You’re safe for now but you never know about tomorrow”…..sweet.
Citi has made sure that I could care less either way. They’ve worked very hard to make sure that I’m numb. What’s the saying….”the beatings will continue until morale improves”.
So layoffs…..sure…whatever….why not.
I remain neutral on the team, not getting to close to anyone. I find it insane that you can go to a team lunch together and the next day, the manager will read off a script for your exit interview. He/She was smiling and having a good time exchanging conversations and already knew about your execution. To me, thats scary, and its not just in Citi. I just noticed it more in Citi
the word “trust” and “citi” do not belong in the same sentence or paragraph…..or even page now that I think about it.
Yes. You never know what's going on behind the scenes and plus, next year and the year after that, if we survive.
Trust, Citi isn't the only corporation going through this.
Citi’s version of work life balance is you being ok with sacrificing your personal time for more Citi work.
Is there a way out?
Job market is bad --> fear of not finding a new role ---> have to live in fear ---> your manager know you won't leave ---> worse behaviour from managers ---> job market is bad --> fear of not finding a new role.
It seems job market is bad is the root cause? My question is will it get better? What can we do to jump out of this circle?
Citi operates on a culture of fear. It's not just about layoffs, it's about continually being asked to do more, work longer etc with the continual threat of being chastised for any evidence of being a person and making a mistake. In this environment, people are not operating on doing a good job, they are operating on fear of not making a mistake. Fear of being laid off? Nope, that's my biggest wish. Job market sux. Again fear of not having a job etc.
