Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

VOE - are they really anonymous? Can your manager know who left which message?

As title suggested, and please no rant.

Post ID: @egrz+1uzNveYR What you as a "Manager", MD or Director are saying and confirming All employees' assumptions and beliefs about the Bull$hit VOEs is that Citi, the MDs and Directors exercise thinly veiled retaliation in the form of and ostensibly under the guise of Layoffs because you said that the Svcker who wrote VOE comments about compensation using the same phraseology as he used during or-l discussions was identified by the MDs as having written those VOE comments and was subsequently "Laidoff".
These are some of the reasons why www.thelayoff.com exists. Employees do Not trust the VOEs and are Not honest on the VOEs which makes the VOEs a complete waste of time and money, the only thing Citi knows how to to do well....waste Shareholders' time and money. Employees air out their complaints, grievances, frustrations and even anger on www.thelayoff.com and all of Citi's Dirty Laundry of which Citi has Megatons. Else we'll just be labeled as troublemakers, Debbie Downers and Complainers, and/or end up on the Layoff Guillotine List.

I have never cared one way or the other as I shoot straight and tell it how it is. I have always been very detailed, but fair, in my comments on the VOE which means there has been plenty of constructive criticism and idea sharing. this year was by far my most negative but again in a professional manner that was intended to be useful. I am a senior person but if ever that sort of participation was used as a reason to eliminate my position then that is not a company that deserves me. Don't be so worried and be detailed but factual and productive in your comments in the future. If you are just being childish then I imagine it likely would backfire, in contrast if accurate but hurtful truth then that is what is needed.

Do I think anything will change directly from the VOE? No.
But then again not pointing things out is more dangerous so hopefully in a year like 2024 the detail will be so overwhelming that at least some takeaways will flow through to action.

Yes and no. The ratings are aggregated but full comments are still viewable. Depending on the size of your team and the people at the table, they may recognize who wrote what. Our team has a mix of VPs, SVPs, Directors, and MDs around the table. The MD will go over the ratings quickly and then it becomes 1 large gossip session.

For example, someone wrote a whole essay about compensation and the MD knew exactly who this was from their writing style and the situation described in the essay. Guess what? That person was top of the layoff list. Definitely change up your writing style and avoid being too detailed.

around 2014-17, Citi set up VOE champions and gathered suggestions for improvement. It just gave an excuse for managers to go on traveling boondoggles to their LOB properties so they could put there fingers "on the pulse of the people". If you spoke honesty to these traveling managers at the group pizza talk, you were put on the top of the sh$t list for future layoffs.

The "free form fields" other posters are alluding to are mpthe Blank Comments Boxes/Sections. You must Wordsmith what you write in those boxes. If you've previously complained or voiced opinions or recommendations about ABC topic, the cafeteria food or whatever and you write comments using the same phraseology or vernacular, then Citi and the "managers" can most likely figure out who wrote what comments.

It’s pretty simple if you don’t want to be identified. Don’t put anything in the free form field

I once was sitting in front of my boss's office and they were going over the results and I kept hearing him yell, "I want names. I want to know who said this".
They get the results and the results and comments are not anonymous.
I was on the chopping block, at another bank and I took the survey and told them how a lot of bullying was going on and condescending emails, and that my boss was the ring leader of it. After the results came out of the survey, I was shown the door.
Theask for honest feedback and when you let them have it, they can't handle it.

your boss only gets notified that you completed it, they have no idea what you said.

VOE surveys are not anonymous, responses can be linked back to employees

it is not mandatory, however they STRESS hard that they want 100% participation. Also, if it's anonymous, why do you have to enter your ID and how do they know the percentage of an org that completes it?

Your ID can not be tracked however if you leave comments you might give away a hint or two.

I’ve figured out who said what in Freeform verbatims if they have a certain writing style or said something using same vernacular. People have a rhythm when writing.

Ok if not anonymous who has the visibility? Only Madam J or D or MD ? Or my SVP lead itself?

There is not a single person that I know who works at Citi who believes that anonymous OR that it’ll make a difference.

I have been told by more than one manager that they can tell who provided free text responses especially in small groups. It doesn't say specifically, but they can tell who is who. But does it really matter? I am not so sure why a company so mired in issues and low morale continues to push the VOE. I get several reminders per day to complete it.

As Manager I will tell you, that, no, we cannot see individual responses. We see aggregated responses only if 6 people or more complete it. If less than 6 complete it then we have no access to it. Manager +1 follows the same principle.

The only way someone can tell who it is, is if you leave a free text comment that says your name or gives away your identity. But even still, only for that question. It is not possible to review one survey at time. The answers are combined and averaged.
