Being let go and your notice period being paid up is the best outcome. That sort of stuff doesn't happen for me though when I leave a place. I must be doing it all wrong.
Probably best thing to do is to say you're going to a competitor and there is no hesitation in them letting you go sooner.
As long as you are paid for your notice period, why should that be a problem? More of a blessing, I think
