Entitled, thy name is Amazon Employee!
Lame of them to try and implement this with the cost of living being so unreasonable. I can barely feed my kids on my income, now I have to increase my gas budget. I hate American employers.. I see why so many have to move abroad now. This isn’t sustainable and corporations don’t care about their people. I’m so discouraged and tired of being broke with the increased cost for everything.. now this.
2 days/week of sick time.
Soft layoff
"You believe that you are special, that somehow the rules do not apply to you. Obviously, you are mistaken. This company is one of the top software companies in the world because every single employee understands that they are part of a whole. Thus if an employee has a problem the company has a problem. The time has come to make a choice, Mr. Anderson. Either you choose to be at your desk on time from this day forth, or you choose to find yourself another job."
For the love of God don't go quietly into that dark night.
This all about employee control, it's time Amazon finds out who really is in control. They need us, without us their is no Amazon, their are companies out there that are willing to pay for a skilled employee and work with you regarding RTO policy. WFH, works great because it helps save us money on food, and transportation, as well as our sanity, we also help our local community and businesses.
Let's give Jassy the big ole middle finger and leave. Seriously, what good is any of the C suite without their engineering teams?
Come December I'm leaving, I have tons of recruiters reaching out on behalf of companies offering remote work in the 6 figure range. Amazon needs us, we don't need them. There is strength in numbers.
Are most employees not already organized after reading Jassy's soliloquy? It's easy - keep interviewing externally and then when you need another job, you'll have one available. Then rise, repeat. When Jassy retires in a few years (or is ejected), boomerang back! This is just upper management incompetency ... look at Walmart skyrocketing!!
How should we organize against this? Sadly I'm worried if we quit and go work for our competitors and they end up falling suit...we might be sc--wed here with workplace flexibility. We've been remote/hybrid for nearly 5 years by the time this gets instituted so no way in he-l this is a productivity play. Makes zero sense except as everyone has already argued, we need to reduce head count plain and simple.
Predicting an extremely poor Q4. The lack of RSU grants, pay freezes, and next round of silent layoffs are a giveaway. The option to report bureaucracy straight to Andy is just rubbing salt in a wound.
The most effective resolution is to quit ASAP, work elsewhere. If 50,000 additional corporate employees did that, then the board will come back and eject Jassy. Flattened growth too.
On the bright side, it's a true test of whether employees are actually dependent on Amazon, do they actually leave? If they do leave does the company continue to perform well?
