So, what did everyone think of the Energy Products Employee Forum?
I, for one, was absolutely riveted by the senior leadership’s approach to improving "recognition" in the employee survey results. The deft way they navigated the question of how employees are supposed to feel valued while being ranked "NSI" or even "Excellent" and yet not receiving any raises was nothing short of Shakespearean. I mean, who doesn’t feel a deep, visceral connection with the plight of a senior vice president lamenting the raise that was too small? I, too, could feel in his words the profound struggle he must have felt as his bonus and stock options for the year would limit him to the 30-foot yacht instead of the 35-foot yacht. It was like watching a masterclass in empathy—a true triumph of connecting with the everyday struggles of the proletariat.
And let’s not forget the pièce de résistance: the leadership’s ecstatic announcement that more "activities" would be offshored to glamorous locales like Buenos Aires. It was a heartwarming reminder of their earlier declarations about ramping up employee development—because nothing says “We value you” like gushing about replacing high-cost employees in the US and Europe with cheaper labor in South America and India. It was like a beautiful, tragic ballet of corporate hypocrisy—a perfect alignment of managers finding new excuses to live it up in far-flung corners of the world on business expenses while finding new ways to cut the "HC-10" headcount of the rank and file.
