Samsung announced significant cuts in the global workforce, up to 30%. They asked subsidiaries to reduce sales and marketing by 15% and administrative staff by 30%. Headcount reductions are to be implemented by the end of the year. What all this means for US-based workers? How many of us will be affected? Are any other areas under threat of layoffs?

Anyone from Business Management let go? Honestly everyone in the CFOs division are incompetent and are getting paid way too much for what they actually contribute.
South East Asia this week in rolling fashion. Will happen across two weeks starting 1st and concluding by the 18th October. All departments affected. Mostly direct employees. Lower levels first and sales and product management towards the back end of month due to quarterly commission calculations/ finalisations. Managers under NDA agreements on cut plan.
Many people point finger the old debate citizen vs H1b or full time vs contractors whenever there is layoff , but as a matter of fact no one thinks in the way it should be , that is how money earned and spent .
They are eliminatings jobs from US Citizens. Full time H1B employees who were fired are being brought back on H1B as contractors for far less pay. With a change in employer these H1B folks are now stuck as contractors for next several years and they will unlikely see any pay raise.
Was part of the cuts. Our useless contractor is still employed. Spent all morning redoing the work they had a month to complete. 30 days worth of work in 6 hours and I’m the one out. Classic Samsung! Good riddance.
Legal got big cuts including a VP
If no invite you should be fine, a lot of senior leaders lost
NJ affected, all units/departments. some more than others.
Which location and buisness units are impacted in today's layoffs?
Are invites still going out? Or should I assume I am safe at this point?
Mass layoff meetings are heartless, lost so many great talent
Invited = you are cut
I know managers who got invitations so this is not limited to individual contributors. This is big
Are people who did not get the invites safe? Or are they invited because they are being let go?
Is management impacted or only individual contributors?
Radio silence from leadership in east coast.
Any news for the east coast??
Some people got meeting invites for morning and others for afternoon, west coast
Which org and which subsidiary? SRA/SEA?
Best of Luck to Everyone!
Overheard chatter between two leaders and it is everywhere. Valid source, refresh that resume even if you survive tomorrow. Things are going to be wildly different come Monday.
Will Mobile or HE be more affected?
Which site?
Contractors will not be affected, heard this will hit every single department.
any word on how much severance to expect?
While not Employees officially, Contractors are still part of Headcount I would assume.
Contractors are not Samsung employees, so I dont think they can be part of headcount reduction.
do you know which departments are unaffected?
Wonder if Contractors will be first to go?
It is for head count reduction
any rhyme or reason for the layoffs? is it head count reduction/salary cap?
Most of the departments are going to be impacted.
any estimates on how many people / which departments are impacted?
Looks like we are finding out tomorow :(
when should we expect invites for layoff meetings tomorrow?
Mandatory WFH day on Friday, here we go
Layoff Very soon
moving paper box in office
Counting the box approx 300
Yea samsung employees are least engaged when it comes to this site and online in general. Would be nice to have some more details here. Hearing discussions in the office since the articles started posting, moral is declining quick. I won’t be surprised if we start seeing actions taken within the next few short weeks. It’s coming.
Most Samsung employees in the U.S. haven't experienced layoffs, and there's no sense of crisis among them. You can still see many people laughing and chatting in the café. Right now, there are too many people who are not competent in their jobs. Those working at Intel, GlobalFoundries, are already preparing to look for jobs as they see the wafer input in the fabs declining. It will be interesting to watch when the company actually announces layoffs, and the majority of the employees will be in tears.
I can see on the layoffs website that Samsung employees are the least engaged. I'm not sure if it's because no one knows this websites or they just choice not to believe it. The potential upcoming layoffs at Samsung could be unprecedented.
Too early to tell , but it's likely to impact usa since it has already impacted other countries
