I’ve seen it happen again and again. Talented people get laid off, and when the time comes to rehire for the vacant position, you need to bring in two people to do the same job. It’s wild how often this plays out, losing one person only to realize they were doing double the work.

Yep, the people they are hiring today have ZERO technical knowledge. They are coming into Dell with stupid degrees like "Human Studies". No Technical knowledge except using their Iphone's for TikTok and other useless social media. This is the NGSA program profile of the NEW DELL. I wonder if Dell realizes that 50 year CIO's aren't going to sit across the table and listen to suggestions on how best to handle their data from a former camp counselor.
I am still employed at Dell(for now) and agree with the naysayers. They have moved a bunch of their jobs outside of region. The US workforce is a skeleton of what it once was. For a US based company that does not seem ideal. Also agree that upper management has made a whole lot of bad decisions over the last few years. I hate to admit I used to be one of the ones who made excuses for them... Not that a good chunk of executives are still around. Most of the good ones are gone.
They laid off gud number of people in India too in August. Zero innovation. Internal cr--s saving their as--s. Not just the rates, people are also low class in India.
@amp+1us303E0 What area? Also in Ireland and waiting to be pushed.
Place is a joke.
Well it makes sense (NOT), you fire 1 then hire 2 cheaper - and comply with the 14 spans and layers rule. Laid off this week, Ireland
I don't get these posts. Who cares. Dell is a low rate company. They will behave as such. Not like they fill some sort of need in the world or are part of some major innovation.
I think you need to consider cost in other geographical locations as well (eg India). 4 engineers in India at $35000 (as noted by another poster here) is still cheaper than 1 engineer in the US at $150000.
I’m sorry you’re upset about being laid off. Best to move on.
And hiring in cheaper cost locations like it’s 2001. That’s such a sign of an immature set of leadership.
That general, “I’m going to save money so hire in cheaper cost location” strategy just doesn’t work.
There are plenty of other reasons to globalize in certain areas, it shouldn’t be to save a buck.
