RTO mandate update coming mid-January

Sources have informed me that we will be forcing an update to RTO mid January. Details are sparse but I will update this if I get more details.

Has anyone else heard of a new RTO off policy update expected to roll out? Dell we continue to tweaks to fit their financial needs. Expecting many updates to this policy in the future.

"the company so pushy to get the people back to the office?"

No tax incentive. buildings are antiquated and Dell is not putting up new buildings for any tax breaks.

I think it has to do with depreciation and amortization. You cannot deduct those two if you don't have employees using the assets. They sold as much land and buildings as they Had they been able to sell off those buildings there would be no RTO.

dell is not a trendsetter. they are just following what the cool kids in tech are doing. unfortunately dell is not the cool hence +50% opted for remote to their chagrin

the question still remains: why is the company so pushy to get the people back to the office? is it because of the tax incentive in texas (enterprise zone program) or/and they want just to reduce the headcount? or is it something else as well?
btw, whats the criteria for the tax incentive?

This is true. Early next year we will be in the office 6 hours per day and not able to find a desk

I suspect there is some fear mongering going on in here.
I highly doubt the 5 day a week mandate is going to be a thing. The minimum hours on each visit, I guess could be possible and makes sense to prevent instant badging in/out.
Making people move closer, nah, I don’t buy it for a second.
Things have changed, y’all need to get over it, comply or move on, but for the love of all that is holy, please stop bleating on and on about it.

When headcount dips to 85k plenty of desk space is open .

5 days is not going to happen as there isn't enough desks and they won't pay for new ones

A poster said people will have to move or leave, they can't be forced to leave unless they get paid off

I dont really buy the 5 days in the office, especially because phase 2 countries are not even live with the new policy, and cant imagine that they would do such a drastic change.

Super doubt this is a thing. Maybe track time in office, but even then a lot of research code can't be run on campus network anyway.

There is no limit to how low they will sink. Absolutely despicable.

My manager logs on at all hours of the night and has told us to choose whatever option suits our home life.

He told us today they are pushing to remove remote as an option because too many people chose remote.

People will quit over this….theyll quiet quit, and I think this time it’ll be supported quietly by management.

There is zero validity to any of this. It's just rumors taking on a life of their own.

They are definitely requiring everyone in 5 days a week. They are even buying millions of dollars of small desks to make sure there are enough seats. Your badge has a chip so they can tell how long you are there. Also, aliens landed in the Franklin 50 parking lot and aapplied for jobs. Word is they were hired remote since their commute is more than 50 miles

I wonder if this will also applies to those classified under “Field” otherwise getting this classification would be a great workaround. It’s like doing the taxes, just claim the exception to all these big moves. Easy.

So, it was within an hour's drive of the office. Is that no longer a consideration? Some of us live within 50 miles of an office; but it would take over an hour to drive in.

The RTO is insanity, but that's what they want to make employees miserable, so they leave. Just wait till flu season comes around - when folks need to be out, or they play tennis with the flu with their families!

When do they start requiring surgically implanted sensors for all employees?! LOL! What a joke. They could save money by hiring children. Seems they think their employees are no more capable than children anyway.

This is to promote more people leaving without WFR which cost the company 326M. Put pressure on the employees by making the work environment stressful is the playbook now.

I've heard about the mandatory minimum in-office hours increasing (per day), but not anything about the number of days changing. Also heard the "within 50 miles" thing. The requirement to relocate is news to me. Wouldn't really surprise me, but I haven't heard anything about it.

  1. must stay 6 hours on each required days
  2. anyone within 50 miles converts to hybrid non negotiable
  3. if there is an office within your geographical location you must arrange to move close to it year end 2025. You need to pick a hub and make it happen.

Dells' business model is failing. They can't innovate. Can't sell on the latest hype.
Only other option is to cut costs left and right.

5 days in office is not true, more likely a min number of hours in office on the 3 days you come in

They can always either "increase number of desks" or "reduce number of people" to fix that insufficient available desks problem. Seen that before in 2020 back when they were reducing buildings.
