Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

More redundencies?

People in the US may not understand this, but in some countries you can bank leave. Every time management asks us (for our own good apparently) to use up our leave its about reducing their financial obligations. Well, new dear leader has asked us to take our owed leave, which if we are made redundant would have to be paid to us. More redundancies are expected soon.

In the most recent rounds of cuts, vacation was paid out to all those who were culled.

"Cengage only pays out leave if you live in a country or state where it is required. Massachusetts employees will get paid for their PTO. Ohio employees will not."

If you're in Michigan, you will get paid for your PTO. Sick days and floating holidays are not included, so use a floating holiday if you haven't already.

Was it mentioned somewhere to use your PTO?

The only time we are exhorted to take leave is when they are going to do more redundancies

This is common practice, all companies do this. Excessive amounts of leave are a liability - very simple.
