Do not understand how FAB could still be functional after ~ 25-30% VSP/ERP taking...
Any ideas ?

Some people don’t realise the Fab is automated. If nothing goes wrong you don’t need to be in the clean room. Just skeleton staff in the fab if something happens they page/call for help
Which fabs are being fully utilized? With everything coming out of TSMC I don't see much output required outside of NM. Intel better learn how to work the fabs efficiently or might as well shutter them.
Fab is great for coasting, all the way from AM to shift techs.
This is exactly why I'm in for VSP.
Sick of bringing people in, training them and watching them switch to coasting along between cafe & gym breaks after I've given so much of my time training them. Some managers see it, but can't do anything due to soft HR depts & policies.
Those 4-6 hour Tech breaks are a real problem, as well as excessive PA usage. The worst issue is that the absentee Techs have kept their jobs and been allowed to exist alongside other Techs that take the minimum breaks, and are doing the job of 3 people. The factory is run poorly. Responsibility and work are divided up unequally. Specs aren't followed. Things are disorganized, automation systems don't work properly and are allowed to stay broken, parts and tools aren't readily available. Upper management has turned a blind eye.
Now that many of the experienced hard-working employees are leaving through CPM/ER. Who will step up to take over the work, and who will train them now that the knowledge and experience is gone? The management that doesn't care, or the workers that take 6 hour breaks and never show up to work or step foot inside the Fab?
You can monitor and reduce the break time, but it doesn't erase the fact that the ones that have chosen to spend their time playing on computers and phones instead of doing the work aren't trained and haven't developed the skills necessary to take over the gap left by the experienced that are going away.
This.. I complained to my om about the team taking x2 4 hour breaks per shift and he did nothing. that's 8 hours of break in a 12 hour shift.
That's a simple one to answer - Stop allowing MT's to take 4-6 hours of breaks every 12 hour shift. I worked there for 20 years and that was one of the most bewildering things about Intel, imho. People come in for passdown, then take a 2 hour break. They go back in the fab for 2-3 hours, then take a 2-3 hour lunch - rinse and repeat. You don't see that a TSMC
If you want to keep your job you need to to the work of people.
It not true about “wood”. As currently seen , the most experienced engineers and MTs and old good Intel generation managers are those who take VSP/ERP.
A clowns, ppt writers and mail senders are those to stay.
There will be a layer of management or maybe two layers of management removed, remaining GL'S will be given a lot of extra responsibilities.
MT's who haven't already been cross trained will be required to do so at at breakneck speed, quality and more importantly safety will be hit over coming years with multiple injuries / excursions. The trust between MT'S and the company has diminished greatly and specs are no longer being followed. Unfortunately people just don't care anymore.
Lots of dead wood, I suppose.
