Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Can anyone provide insight on the recent Tanzu layoffs?

I'm a former VMware employee (Tanzu division), and this week, multiple former colleagues have reached out because they were cut, and looking for networking opportunities as they begin their job hunt. Can anyone provide any insight on the most recent round of layoffs? Just Tanzu-focused, or a broader cut? For reference, these were very respected architects/SMEs within the field, so I'm concerned for the collective division.

For the folks who like facts:
A principal solutions architect, a principal solutions engineer, and a commercial account executive (all Tanzu division) in AMER.

No one knows except Hock and his spreadsheet brethren. Has nothing to do with competence.

Tanzu is going to die fast. It was a starter container technology of 2017-2020 for enterprise where now customers can jump to other products at a much cheaper price. There isn’t any magic left in this. Broadcom will milk it just like VCF until companies jump.

In UK two account managers and two SEs have been let go.
This is the first cut to Tanzoo systems engineer team in UK.

General direction of travel is towards private cloud. Not multi cloud. Everyone does their own cloud and sc--ws customers.

"Cutting Tanzu is just perpetuating the oligopoly of the hyperscalers."

News flash!

No one has been buying Tanzu, which is why it's getting cut.
A lot of whatever revenue it had was recognized from larger bundles/enterprise deals. Look at how many deals VMW had where Tanzu was the driver and/or the product pulling in attach...... yeah, keep looking.....

Tanzu was a dead product even before it was Tanzu. The acquisitions of Pivotal and Heptio just made it worse as they brought on a ton of cost, arrogant engineers and inept leadership.

Funny part is key engineer of Spring FW is recommending to use IntelliJ IDE instead of Spring Tool Suite. What a jerk he is.

Fire all of Tanzu division.

Tanzu have sh-t products with a bunch of hippies that are not cut out for the real world. Nice people, but not of this world.

Finally, there are better, cheaper, and more straight forward solutions out there that don’t require getting HockE’d. It can’t be sold cos no one with a sane mind would buy it, so it’s death by a thousand cuts. Sad, but unfortunately true!

Move to cash and gold. Keep a van ready to go off grid on a moments notice. Can come back to civilization after the civil war is done in a couple of years. We will have more visibility into how the new world looks like in a couple of years.

Cutting Tanzu is just perpetuating the oligopoly of the hyperscalers. Hock is cutting all portability options across cloud providers making the hyperscalers oligopoly cartel stronger against customers. Cutting AWS is also a strategy to cut portability across hyperscalers. Just makes oligopoly extraction of customers more easy by the hyperscalers cartel. At a deeper level Tanzu/Pivotal is a rollup operation by VMware execs. No need to blame engineers for working at Tanzu. Hock did say before the acquisitin that he is going to invest more in multicloud and then improve competition against hyperscalers. He said he is going to increase R&D spend by additional 2 Billion. Now his overall R&D Spend is 1.3 Billion. EU and the FTC got their bribes. This whole world is becoming one big scam.

All the bc fanbois like to think their leader is some kind of savant. But the simple fact is he bought a business he didn’t understand, and now everyone is paying the price for his fu-k up.

No insight , it is whatever pops up inside the tiny hock man’s f’d up head. We will have more transparency once Kim Hock Un graces the heavens with his divine presence. That day can’t come soon enough.

I’ll give the actual answer, the business is still being scaled down to its final headcount number. Layoffs will continue to happen until a predetermined number is reached. Hock decideswhen that is.

Very respected? Why were they still at Tanzu?
I'd look twice before hiring anyone from that org at this point, most of the high quality people are long gone. Most still there are remote, too lazy to look for new jobs, visa locked, or just not very good and struggling to find work.
Or too ignorant to realize that Tanzu wasnt heading for the cliff, it was already over it.

Anyway, best of luck to them.

They’re gone because HT doesn’t want to maintain a ton of accounts that don’t buy products but still require sales and he has no intention of improving products either. They all got caught in the trap.
