Big Lots will close its distribution center on the west side of Columbus by the end of October, the company said in a filing with the state.
Approximately 379 employees will be terminated after the Big Lots Distribution Center, located at 300 Phillipi Road, closes by October 31. Terminated employees willreceive pay and benefits through November 3, 2024.
A majority of the eliminated employees worked asMaterial Handlers orPower Equip Operators. Big Lots notified the state of the layoffs in a letter dated September 4 per theWorker Adjustment and Retraining (WARN) Act.
In August, the Columbus-based company said it was closingas many as 315 stores nationwide. Before that, Big Lots said it expected to close 35 to 40 stores.
The discount retailer is contemplating bankruptcy, Bloomberg reported last week citingpeople with knowledge of the plans.
