Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

A VSP from 2013 had his work patented after he left

Not sure if anyone cares, but if you take a VSP, ISP, or otherwise quit your group may patent your work without your name on it. I know someone who worked very hard and was the secondary architect on a NINE patents that were filed the month after he left. The patents only credit the primary architect, the RTL designer, and some guy that rarely touched it.

Just something to think about, I’m not sure what you could really do about it. My friend was surprised and then very pi---d to see his work having patent numbers on coworker’s LinkedIn

A patent can be invalidated if an inventer is left off.
The owner is clearly intel, but they cannot change the inventers.

Patents don’t mean sh-t to the individual anyway other than resume fodder that no really cares about

Pretty petty indeed, we included former Intel colleagues in application, once you get above 2 contributors, it doesn't make sense to be stingy with credit. We had a patent granted that did include a prior worker who went to work for a competitor.

Its a small world, always good to stay on friendly terms with prior co-workers especially true at times like this when the Ground is unstable.

No need to worry, there's no money to file Patents going forward.

That is very unethical. I have filed many many IP’s explicitly including former employees in the application and the patenting system (named after an arctic phenomenon) allows us to include former employees in patent applications.

Why wouldn't they? He was paid salary for his work, meaning company owns the IP.

Standard policy - it would make absolutely no diff as no one gives a f**k

That’s life. The work you do at a company belongs to the company. Patents take longer than a month to submit so they were in the works before he left.
