What are the worst advice you received from your performance assessments?
I had a supervisor who happened to be at least a decade younger give me career advice. It was ludicrous. He told me that I need to fake it ‘til I make it. It seems that was how he was successful.
Glad I paid no attention to this advice because my credibility is important.
Report that policy violation by your boss to HR.
HR immediately forced my boss to retire but I was threatened and told I must officially withdraw the statement in writing to salvage my career. Never ranked high again.
Speak up, show courage of conviction! Ok, I spoke up and stood my ground to try to stop my manager from making a big mistake. Ranking that year dropped from Outstanding to NI and never recovered.
Drink the kool aid. I did and it tasted like s hit. It is also poisonous to the soul. Once you get addicted to the kool aid you will need more and more.
"Bend Over"; I did, but still got $krewed over royally on my final review.
Trust the system. The company will take care of you.
It might be true for the baby boomers who worked and retired EM with $5M in the bank, not not anymore….
You’re assuming we get some advice at all from these guys. I get fantasy football conversations and pretend how’s the family.
Take that position at that refinery.
Refinery turns out to be extremely political and every upstream person gets dropped to bottom of rank group. Those down streamers will have it out for every non-HiPo upstreamer because due to pay scale differences, the upstreamer’s salary will be much higher than the Downstream Supervisor.
There is nothing you could’ve done to improve your performance assessment results due the folks who were assessed higher than you were Managers.
Told to me by the SLS who constantly mentioned my FLS wasn’t able to get the job done but was unwilling to move them.
Sacrifice yourself (to XOM) like you would for your family and your family (XOM) will treat you back the same way..............hahahaha, we all know how that ends.

Work for ExxonMobil
Even if you are the best performer again next year, you will get the same low ranking for the same political reasons. You better hope they do not move more HiPos into your rank group that will make your ranking drop.
