The problem is in order for this tactic to work, the people making the decision needed to be the right people first. A lot of people with bias and vengeful tendencies made decisions based on personal feelings which has had a negative impact on the business. The decision should have never been made at the store level. Especially now that we don’t have in store HR managers anymore.

During the covid call back process, some of the people who were picked to come back were not the best workers. When there is a layoff at the stores, do they choose who to layoff or does corporate make the “best” decisions for them?

During Covid, we were told to cherry pick the best of the best to come back to the stores. Those picked last were least desired in the bottom of the pecking order.

I've got a picture on my desk of the last Best of Best meeting that our district won years ago and most of the people in it are no longer with the company. It looks like the company leadership is comprised mainly of boomers waiting to retire and young people with few opportunities outside of the company, looking desperately for opportunities elsewhere.

You know it's not going well when you Chief Stores Officer takes a job working for a health club company because he just couldn't take the growing sense of desperation and sadness he encountered on every visit to the stores.

They’re begging the best of the best to come back.
